I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

AOC is hot but for a Latina she is past the expiration date. Sorry folks.
90% of the latina girls i knew from high school were more attractive and still are. what are talking about.

aoc simps are the dumbest people on the planet unknown.png
1) Crowder is proud capitalist and privet citizen. aoc is not. she literally throws fits about capitalism daily and is clearly using her political position for direct personal gain (again something she bitches about daily)
2) unions are a part of capitalism.

I like how this woman worked for a single year as a bartender in New York and she acts like she spent a lifetime slaving away in the chup mines. I'm sorry, but what exactly is "physically difficult" about being a bartender? Of all the professions in the world that I would describe as "physically difficult", bartending would not even break my top 100.

As a moderately attractive woman I'm sure she had such a terrible time. It must have been so hard, I feel so bad for her!

I'm sure it wasn't a glamorous job, and bartending definitely has its share of hassles, but this constant obsession she has with trying to paint herself as someone who toiled away in menial labour as if she was out there breaking rocks in a Somalian slave camp is genuinely just obnoxious. It's like lady, you were lower-middle class at worst.

I also have a tremendously difficult time taking anyone seriously after they just finished telling me that they cried in a fridge over seltzer water. It's astounding that the best example she could come up with for how difficult her job was is that one time someone got upset about their order being taken incorrectly. Clearly you are the very definition of the calloused, coal-caked, and physically-exploited proletariat.

Bartending and waitressing is the higher end of the service industry, and she'd have an argument if she was a delivery driver. Except she's from a well-to-do family from Westchester, went from bartending to being propped up by Chunk to being in the House. She's so goddamn privileged and has the gall to present herself as some hero of the people.

Let us not forget she makes 174k now and says it's not enough.

To be fair - it isn't. Anyone who would probably be "really good" at government work probably makes way more money in the private sector.

Most CEOs (even small scale ones) probably clear $200,000 easy with substantially less demand. For larger companies, C-level all the way down to Director/Manager probably clear $200,000 or close to it.

If all we can justify paying lawmakers is $174k - we're only going to get people on AOC's level (or worse) mixed in with people who are taking a lower salary than they normally would just to try and steal it back later through bribes/embezzling/pork spending/etc.

The common folk she's trying to relate to with her sob stories will never, ever see 174k/year.

All of her simps aren't blue collar workers.
They have never operated large machinery or done physical labor.
Oh boo hoo you had a customer mad you.
You never dealt with a cable snapping and almost cutting your head off because retard engineers don't understand what max weight is.
Standard AOC's fan stupid take.
Pretend more about how you know what blue collar work is like please.

She's only thinking of "physically difficult" jobs in the context of jobs that annoying, entitled, uninspired women like her would do; she's not taking men's demanding and dangerous jobs into consideration whatsoever because she is a self-serving narcissist who knows that most of her constituency and fanboys tend to work food service or retail (perhaps the black and Latin ones are more often CNAs, nannies, security guards, or transit workers) but expect to be lauded as heroes.
