I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

My main takeaway is that AOC is a huge coward. She can talk tough on twitter but the slightest hint of pushback in real life and she shits her pants and cowers.

I mean the blueness of it doesn't matter if you get a decent blue opponent in the ring.

The most likely result though, is people just get tired of her
I wish I could believe that, but, despite being an ignorant embarrassment and costing her own district thousands of jobs (and proud to have done it) and a less-crazy WOC being on the ticket last cycle as the challenger, she was still reelected in a landslide.

She's going nowhere because the zealotry of modern urban deep-blue voters is completely at odds with reality, and when that happens, reality loses out.

She will never rise beyond her current station, but, she'll stay there till she dies or they realign the district, she's just this generation's Ted Kennedy or Diane Feinstein .. elected again and again regardless of performance because the people they represent would literally rather die than show disloyalty to party.

My best guess is that AOC bent the knee to Queen Nancy, and as a result she threw the support of the local party machinery to AOC. Caruso-Cabrera was clearly used as a tool by Establishment Dems to force AOC to willingly chain herself to the approved DNC line.

Then why did Caruso-Cabrera stand as a Republican after?
I don't believe she went full GOP, I thought she went indepebdent. In any case, just because she was used as a tool didn't mean she didn't want to become a Congresswoman. She probably seriously dislikes AOC and sincerely wanted to oust her, for which she earns my respect at least.

Jack may be married with children, but he is fucking colonizing her.

All I can take away from this one-sided slapfight is... she needs to go back. The year is looking bleak for the Squad at the moment. Imagine get exposed by the crazy blonde from Georgia and now getting ratio'd by Posobiec.

I don't think AOC (excuse me #AlexandriaOcasioSmollett) is used to taking any L online and is not handling it well. Fully expect a live steam meltdown here at some point.

The twitter shitposting will be really fun.

She was an independent - I was wrong.

I'd honestly be unsurprised if centrists did fund her challenge but she did get the support of her district back in 2018 and she probably did the same again. Whether Pelosi actually has any influence over her will become clear over the next few years as Biden loses his few remaining marbles and everyone starts jockeying for power.

Did she post any video when she was "under siege", or has she posted any subsequent video of her "ordeal" since?

I find it very hard to believe that a bitch who Instathots herself chopping onions, and putting on nail polish, didn't show any video of the SIX HOURS of her harrowing, life-threatening Nazi insurrection nightmare.

In fairness, I wouldn't be taking Instagram videos if I was in a riot where a good deal of people wanted my head.

I mean she has no intention of actually doing the work. She's just there to whip up her personal army to get them to do it for her.

It's just more projection. They made up stories and sources about Trump wanting to do this for five years.

AOC not only wasn't in the Capitol but rioters never even reached her office. Nancy Mace says so and she was in the Army so I believe her over some feral bartender.

As and when an enquiry gets produced I'll believe what that says. I can't be arsed to deal with two Congresswomen having a bitch fight over Twitter.

after all the lies they said about Trump and republicans, and all the lies and stupidity AOC had spewed to the cheers of "yass slay qween", I dont even care if that dude is right or wrong in saying she lied about being in danger, I am totally ok with them heaping shit on her even if it's not true

I'll have to remember Alexandria Oscasio Smollett. That shit's too good.

This really is another Smollett. And the media won't report it fairly at all.

Posobiec gets to be in Psaki and Cortez's head rent free. Hope the guy makes sure he doesn't travel DC alone at night, he's getting too many solid right hooks in compared to Ben Shapiro twitter jabs. He might be the first example of domestic terrorist being taken in.
