I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

AOC must have gotten into Hunter Biden's crack stash. Joe Biden didn't leave much room for interpretation in his statement of "I will not do that."
She isn't trying to genuinely convince Biden to do that, because both she and her more politically astute supporters know that Biden's a neolib and will support the stuff on AOC's wishlist when pigs fly.

What she's trying to do is get herself into a position where she can very easily stab Joe Biden in the back and present herself as the leader of the leftists within the Dems, because everyone on Capitol Hill knows that Joe Biden's gradually going senile and that there'll be a power struggle when he finally loses it.
It truly is the hallmark of a leftist to want daddy government to make up for their mistakes. Nobody forced them to take on all this student debt, but fuck the taxpayers and make them pay!
I can understand debt forgiveness for degrees that are actually useful but don't pay well. However, if you do a liberal arts or humanities degree you should pay for it. The state should, by all means, help you get qualifications that can get you a job, but I honestly don't see why we need more drama or English Literature graduates or why the state should pay for middle-class white girls to swan around campuses doing degrees they'll never use.

Well the student debt problem can be "solved" pretty easily. Stop giving so much money out in grants, stop giving colleges free money, make student loans the same as any other loan in that they can be discharged via bankruptcy, and in general stop distorting incentives. Tuition is spiraling because there's no market feedback or check on who can get a loan for a given degree.

It's absurd and I really don't want to end up paying for a useless waste of space yuppie socialist that doesn't want to face the consequences of being a retard.

Once she's done with that old whore Pelosi then the entire party belongs to Alexandria.

Biden and Kamala will fall just as rapidly as Pelosi did.

Yes and no.

She has a lot more support with the grassroots of the Dems than Pelosi, Harris or Biden have, but the House and Senate Dems do not like her or socialists in general.

Whatever happens, the 2022 midterms should be interesting, especially since the Republicans might well get the House.

Like all this shit, green energy, tuitions, etc. it's exactly the opposite of what a consistent left should be striving towards.

All it does is take income from the working class via taxation, and give it to massive, bloated corporate bureaucracies.

It's literally fighting to enrich corporations off the labour of the working and middle class. The double-think is pretty astounding, but I suppose if you keep repeating something lng enough, you can't help but to believe it.

And really, the best education any of these idiots who wasted 4 years of their life and $100+ for some retarded deg-Reeeeeee is to have them LEARN to not be so stupid financially. That's an actual valuable education.

The left has been subverted completely and utterly. Problem is no one is telling their base that. The base knows somethings wrong but can't really do anything about it.

If you're gonna discharge student loans via bankruptcy you had better end all government loans. Otherwise everyone will immediately declare bankruptcy after graduation.

There's no photoediting necessary to get an AOC that looks like that. She's made that exact face plenty of times before.

Isn't that pretty much what she looks like all the time? Idk what it is, but I've noticed all girls I've met with eyes that go big like that when they talk are fucking crazy.

That picture has been around forever no way Tuck did that.
It's not, the original tweet poster genuinely thought it was edited because of how big her eyes were.

My bet is that Biden isn't doing anything more than $10k (he probably won't do anything) because either he or the people behind him know that it'll open the flood gates to asking for more than $50k, or even rallying to get private student debt loan forgiveness (that would be more like the federal government literally paying out money, yes?).

The amount is arbitrary, really, as is the proposed action.. For various reasons, I managed to get by with only $15k in debt, so I would benefit greatly in having 2/3ds of my debt removed. But it doesn't do anything about the rising tuition that ensures that people will clamor for it again, and none of these figures are based on anything. They're just random big numbers.
As far as I understood in the video below it's 10k loan scratch from private student loans. They are miniscule in numbers compared to federal student loans. Did I get this right?
There's another question I have: why the fuck are universities with immense costs for learning also receiving government money? Either its private or not? I'm confused about that.
Edit: video
