I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

Listen, if you can't see how pathetic it looks to seethe uselessly while your enemy wins acclaim and the love of masses, then it never began for you.
I have quite a lot of respect for AOC, given that she became a congresswoman from a deprived background and, unlike half the Swamp, stands for something, although I disagree with what that ”something” is.

I have no respect for fat Redditors who think that defending m'lady's honour on KF will make m'lady fuck them.

Wasn't she a pretty wealthy kid that went to a good university? Honestly the thing I dislike about her is that she's kind of a cunt about things, it's not an endearing trait.

She's a a trust-fund cunt kind that tries to play the part of working class hero, even though she's never done anything in the real world. Hate on Trump for not having prior political experience, but at least he had prior success in the private sector. Sandy didn't even have that; her only previous job was a short bartending stint.

She grew up in one of the nicest areas of Westchester, New York. She was far from destitute.

Considering that the money is being sent to charities and not the state government, that won't happen. I believe AOC mobilized her simps to give assistance to Texans out of a mix of concern for their wellbeing and to stick it to the Republicans.
Ahh, my favourite form of charity: spitegiving.

Isn't she from Yonkers? I'm sorry, but that isn't "one of the nicest areas of Westchester" when half of the county is multimillion dollar mansions.

Pretty sure she grew up in Larchmont for most of her life.

Edit: There are also some pretty affluent/nice areas in Yonkers, too. Yonkers is sort of the unofficial borough of the Metropolitan New York area. Just as there are nice areas in Brooklyn (Williamsburg and Green Point), the same goes for Yonkers.

She's from an upper middle class family. She wears expensive designer clothing. She's incredibly privileged.

Very expensive clothing, actually. I even sort of proved it in a previous post in this very thread when we were discussing her wardrobe.

Also ironic how the fashion designer is the wife of the grandson of William Randolph Hearst, an ultracapitalist and pioneer of fake news.

For some of the big magazines, wardrobe is provided for celebrities and other VIPs by advertisers who rightly view the spread as a form of advertisement. Every now and then you'll hear funny little stories about such-and-such director or actor walking off with a three thousand dollar tie they liked or something, which get no complaints because its more free advertising. This is particularly rampant with fashion, lifestyle, and entertainment magazines like GQ.

I don't think that this suit was provided by Interview however. There isn't a fashion consultant listed, which is what I normally see when the wardrobe is provided. Second, she's wearing the same outfit in multiple photographs spread over several locations and times. Thirdly, her outfit isn't described in detail as is typically done when this is the case. Again, this is based after my long experience with men's fashion magazines, but if you look at other articles from the same magazine you see consultants, different outfits, and explicit details.

She wore her own suit.

Edit: Since I don't want to subject you to their website or give them clicks, here is a comparison.

Again, there is no way those cunts at Manolo Blahnik provide shoes and don't get name-dropped. They wouldn't allow it.

Edit Edit: Archived it.

Apparently she's from Yorktown Heights, so middle class
Middle-class in Westchester is pretty wealthy when compared to the rest of the country. She wasn't moving one bedroom apt to another with ber entire family, or struggling keeping the heat on in their house, or went to a shitty school.

She also got about a full ride scholarship to BU ($55,000/year tuition) paid for by Intel under a program to get women into STEM. She took the money and quickly dropped the STEM classes.

The only reason she was "deprived" after she received over $200,000 worth of education was because she had a crap degree, and she chose to do social justice nonsense and chase silly "children's book publisher" pipe dreams rather than pursue a real career.

So AOC is taking her twitter slap fight with Cruz to his backyard? That sounds very mature and so not a waste of government funds.

How did she get to Houston? Did she ride her bike, or did she take a jet? How much of that 3 million she raised is her cut?

cruz dropped the ball simple and easy. handing out emergency shit is easy photoops.

I mean this has been refuted extremely frequently with the prevalence of companies that rent out designer clothing for media ops. You have no reason to believe that she actually spent 6-7% of her annual take-home salary on those clothes as opposed to just giving like $80 to renttherunway for a day of photoshoots. Not to mention that the majority of designer clothes sit on the rack until they're at a 40-75% discount anyways.

I bought a gucci suit on ebay for $40 last year for a job interview. Better google the retail to shame me as one of the bourgeoisie.

There's plenty of retarded politics, vapid posturing, and whiny bitching to go around without scraping the bottom of the barrel by just googling her material possessions until you find what is quite possibly one of the most depreciating assets someone can own was expensive at one point.

Refuted how? Do you have the any proof that designer clothes were provided for her, but were failed to be credited and sourced like in other spreads from the same magazine?

She's a woman, and an idiot. I'd believe she'd spend any amount of her grifted money on stupid bullshit, its not like she works for it. (Also these designer clothes aren't available on that site.)

Furthermore, it misses the point. She wants to play pretend that she's a member of and an advocate for the proletariat, a hard working class hero from a poor neighborhood. Its all a lie, though, and the fact that she insists on acquiring outfits that cost two or four times the average 'working class' monthly salary so she can mug her horseface for the camera in a phony effort to play pretend worker ally is laughable. She's a wealthy moron dressed up in her rich girl clothes playing at politics, and if she wasn't actually in a position of relative power it would be pathetic and sad.

I'm just providing an alternative, you're the one claiming that things are all the way you say they are without receipts.

I'm not saying it's the only site to get them from as if there aren't probably private stylists and wardrobes that are effectively government contractors. You're also checking shop stock, as to my recollection, over a year since those pictures were taken.

She's absolutely a poser, don't get me wrong. But I just think "wow a politician shows up to press events dressed to the nines instead of adopting a blue collar uniform, burn it down" is retarded idpol that has nothing to do with their shortcomings from an actual political standpoint. Like it or not visual presence is absolutely a part of politics now and it's part of playing the game and compromising if you actually want to help people, do you genuinely think that someone could show up to the debates with an off-the-rack untailored macy's suit and it wouldn't hurt them?

Of course she's just playing dress-up with tax dollars that's a given. Probably way more than she needs to. But I dare you to find a single politician who's any different, because as far as I'm concerned having some nice clothes is way less offensive than scrutinizing the financial holdings of any other politician who's found any sort of success in the last 100 years.

That seems a bit different from "posing with everyday american workers to pretend like we have solidarity when I am wearing an outfit that could feed their family for a year" but hey, I'm not the one simping for AOC.

(Also I bet the local tailors and dressmakers in her district would love to do her outfits and would probably do a great job for a lot less. But then she would be actually helping her community and her rich friends couldn't be jealous of her designer blazer she bought with taxpayer dollars. So I guess she couldn't do that then, never mind.)
