The Square Enix Griefing Thread

Kingdom Hearts' story is a dumpster-fire of a mess. KH3 was basically Dream Drop Distance 2: Electric Boogaloo. The DLC story and Kairi's DDR adventure only made things even more convoluted.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is a barebones product compared to the original with a different coat of paint. Voice acting sucks, the love triangle turning into a love square with Jessie was unnecessary, and Sephiroth's appearance makes no sense whatsofuckingever.

It's hardly a barebones product, for one thing it's actually hard in quite a few areas while the original was a breeze. There's a ton of side quests and shit to kill and places to explore.

Sephiroth is there because what Square Enix game hasn't ended with a big huge mindfuck boss fight that reverts everything back to normal once the big bad is vanquished?

"Square-Enix just announced another remastering of one of your childhood games!"

They better do Threads of Fate because that's the last Summer of Adventure game that needs a modern port.

No, a dumpster-fire is less of a mess. You know somebody set it on fire, that it's burning, and that eventually it'll go out. I'm fairly sure KH's story is just the developers throwing darts at a board with ideas written on it. Then adding a bunch of belts to it.

No there's not. The game is very linear and the only time you have side quests only occurs twice in the game, first during chapter 3 when you're hanging out with Tifa and again when you're with Aerith, and even then you only have like 6 to 9 side quests that pretty much consist of fetch quests and "kill x number of these monsters".

Square makes trash aside from ports. Even their remakes and remasters are, at best, half-assed and censored.

The rumored Chrono Cross remaster will probably be trash but it's Chrono, so I gotta support it (unless it goes woke).

There's more than just that, there's 26 side quests and quite a few lead to unique bosses.

I've scanned every monster in the base game and DLC. A sizable number will only spawn in side quests like both Behemoth types.

The DLC only has a small amount but stuff like Fort Condor are fairly elaborate in terms of design.

Dragon Quest 11 was the best game Square Enix made in at least a decade.
Yeah but that game was made by the Dragon Quest people at Square and Square knows better than to fuck up Japan's favorite RPG. Though they've only really been developing them since DQ10 so who knows. I'll be shocked if the scary clickbait rumors about DQ12 being radically different in a bad way come to fruition. But if so, Square will have to co-opt another franchise.

I'll tell you this: Dragon Quest is the only thing I ever buy that has Square's name on it at this point. And Dragon Quest isn't Dragon Quest because of Square. So that should give you the lay of the land there.

That's definitely their best JRPG since FFX-2. That's a long time to go with just mediocrity to fill the gap. That last Dragon Quest Monsters game on 3DS was pretty good too though. A lot of their output has been mediocre at best (stuff like Bravely Default and Octopath Traveler).

Ugh... Bravely Default and Octopath Travel, Secret Triangle are a shitload of fuck. They are the most average JRPGs imaginable and get praise that far outstrips their innate quality. Meanwhile Square wishes they could make a game like Radiant Historia.

Yeah, they're basically just a notch above Kemco games. In fact, if it wasn't for their slightly bigger budget they'd probably be about the same.

I gotta try Radiant Historia at some point if I get a 3DS again.

@Scarlett Johansson Just rename the thread to "The Square Enix Griefing Thread" and get it over with, because that's all this is going to be.

Make sure you do. I only ever played the DS version but I've heard that the 3DS version is the same, just with more stuff. The time travel mechanic used in Radiant Historia is very fun and encourages the player to see as many routes as possible, including and especially the failure routes and temporal dead ends.

I grew up with the SNES. I dont think we'll ever get another game like Chrono Trigger. I am a bit surprised that nobody's attempted to make a successor to that since we got a shitload of Earthbound inspired games.
People have. Then SE hits them with a C&D.
