The Square Enix Griefing Thread

Have agree with the first part but can't with the () bit. Hell, troons get pissed at them every single game. lol ReeeeeEra almost banned their games more than once. lol
I own P5 for PS4, but I've never gotten around to playing it. That tangent was based on what I've seen of the persona fanbase, and the leakage of it into the Xenoblade fans after Xenoblade 2 released. Also a lot of trannies have that hacker girl as their profile pic

I know of the DMC series, i've played every one and am a huge fan of the first 4. That doesn't mean I want my japanese RPGs to become generic WRPGs. If I wanted an action game i'd play DMC.. And given how likely it is to be done poorly (bad hack and slash with maybe a FPC stuck on) given their history thus far.. I'd rather they not even try.

Just in case. Fuck barry

I mean to me anyway, action RPGs can work just fine when they aren't ass. Kingdom Hearts, when it isn't being made by lazy morons, is one of the better shows of what you can do in that sub-genre when you get your head out of your ass. Definitely better than a lot of turn based JRPGs I've played over the years as far as gameplay goes. I'd play KH2FM's post game bosses, and even a good chunk of the base campaign game, over pretty much any Persona even Persona 5 or a decent chunk of old FF or Bravely Default if I purely go off gameplay. Tales Of is also a pretty fun series most the time, and that's been an action rpg since the SNES. You can make good action RPGs, you just need to actually design good combat.

I'm also not even sure how it is a WRPG exactly, because we've been doing hard medieval Europe vibes and styles with Japanese produced games since at least the PS1 with FFTactics, or Tactics Ogre if we want to count that old SNES game which has been remade twice now. That's kind of what I'm getting with FF16 right now in terms of its presentation style and the world it is trying to have just with far more big magic.

I'm just not seeing how action rpg = inherently bad game, to me FF15 has bad combat simply because it has bad combat not because it is just trying to be a fundamentally bad idea.

Monolith Soft is the only company making good JRPGs anymore (I mean there is Atlus, but Persona is cringe and for trannies). Funny that Monolith is mostly all ex Square staff from the golden age
I really liked The Last Story, and wish Mistwalker weren’t trapped making mobile games.

Action RPGs aren't bad inherently, but SE is super inconsistent about making a good combat system with good bosses.
I rather dislike Action RPGs, as I find that trying to be both means they frequently fail at being either.

There are exceptions - Kingdom Hearts II is a solid game, and part of that comes from leaning closer towards being an action game. XVI, too, looks to be play more like a traditional action game, so I have some hope on that front. I just don’t have a whole lot of faith in modern-day Square.

I never really saw the hype of The Last Story. It had a banging OST and neat graphics for the Wii, but beyond that it felt like very much an experimental tech demo of an action RPG. It was clunky and awkward with a pretty so-so plot. One of the most average games I've ever played. Probably the weakest of the Operation Rainfall trilogy if we don't count Pandora's Tower having a glitch that can soft lock you forever unless you make a brand new save.

They've been doing that with the last 3 or 4 games.. and look how that has turned out.. Going even more all-in on western hack and slash/FPC is the last thing they should be doing.

They've been doing that half measure of being half turn-based half action shit that's awkward to play and generally terrible. This is the first one that seems to be going full Action RPG and it'll be nice to have an FF game that commits to the bit.

Besides people really seem to like Japanese Action RPGS. Look at Monster Hunter, Elden Ring, and Dragon's Dogma for some examples.

That isn't what they said at all. Sony was helping them optimize the game since it is PS specific, but that doesn't mean Series couldn't run a comparable version if it was built for multi-plat.
I mean it supposedly is running on some proprietary engine and given SEs track record with proprietary engines I would assume the game barely runs at all. Dawn Engine was shit, Foundation Engine was shit, Luminous Engine was shit, Crystal Tools was a trainwreck.
