The Square Enix Griefing Thread

You're talking as if she was fucking TOPLESS. Dude, it was fucking cleavage. I'm sure you've seen a teenage girl with cleavage before; its kind of a side effect of having breasts. It wasn't even particularly in your face cleavage, and Tifa wasn't being portrayed erotically in any way.
Exactly. Girls existing isn't sexual. That's why I'm sure this was just typical ESG shit.

Anyway.......Yuffies breasts
Why does nobody talk about Aerith's melons? 90% of the time it's Tifa for understandable reasons, then straight to Yuffie.

You keep fuckin that corpse and your dick will rot off. Meanwhile a nice, cleanly ninja like Yuffie would only protect your dick from undue harms.

Again I’m not even saying the censor was necessary. If that’s how it sounded then my apologies. I’m just saying that it’s not a big deal. And unless I was majorly autistic with details, I wouldn’t even notice.

I’m just saying that it’s not a big deal.
the problem with that argument, if it's not a big deal why do it in the first place?
that's the same one you often hear similar to "why do you care?" - it goes both ways. there was simply no need to do it two years later (and no, japanese society didn't change that much in 2 years that it suddenly becomes an issue). yes, in the grand scheme of things it's hardly noticeable, but then again, why do it at all then?

something you have to keep in mind is that everything costs money. there had to be at least one meeting about this change. some poor dev had to go back to an already finished game to change it. then it had to be QA'd and the patch certified for consoles. all that is time lost that could've been spend on something else, and time is money. all that for a minimal graphical change in a two year old game the majority has already finished? so who is this change for exactly then?

that's why people have an issue with it.

it’s not a big deal.
This phrase always takes me back to the tumblr days, when I was told "It's just a bunch of blue-haired tumblrites saying this, it's not a big deal."

It is censorship, so of course it's a big deal.
What is happening here is that you are experiencing cognitive dissonance, since you are on kiwifarms defending an instance of censorship, because you like it. You like it and it's right, in your opinion, to censor Tifa's cleavage, because she is technically underage, and anyone here who complains about this is a crypto-pedophile who wants to ogle underage breasts.

So just say it.

Censorship isn't a big deal in and of itself, it can be good. But aside from what was censored or even why, retroactive censorship is a much bigger problem in principle regardless of if this instance was okay or not. They shouldn't be allowed to just censor what you already bought, that wasn't what you paid for.

it’s not a big deal
The censors disagree.

Even if you don't think cleavage is a big deal you shouldn't let a bunch of transexual freaks decide what you're allowed to see and hear.

I'd argue that, even in a hypothetical situation where the censorship is "good", it would still be a big deal.
I'd disagree, but my point was more about the way they implemented it, not that it happened at all. Whether we agree it was good or not, I'm sure it's easier to agree that companies shouldn't sell a product and then censor it after the fact.

I agree with your post. There is little disagreement to be had over retroactive censorship. I was merely saying that even if they censor in a way you agree with, the double edged sword of permitting censorship to take place should not be ignored.

It is a "big deal". It is important. It sets precedent for the future. It might erode your ability to protest a change in the future. If you care about free speech and free expression, every instance of censorship is a big deal, whether you agree with the change or not. It doesn't mean every instance of it is a net-negative, but it means that your fundamental rights are at risk of being eroded every single time it happens.
It's a very delicate subject matter and it needs foresight and wisdom to make the right call, even when it's "just" teenage Tifa's tits that are on the chopping block, by which I do not mean to imply it's a small deal, they are two pretty massive deals actually.

You are completely misinterpreting what I’m saying and this is extremely disingenuous. I never said I “like” Tifa’s cleavage being censored, I just don’t care. And no, I don’t think anyone mad about the change is a pedophile, I just think it’s a weird thing to complain about. Not really a big fan of arguments where you put words in my mouth.

I should add that I consider myself to be against censorship, but in this case I’m not concerned. I’d agree with everyone on here if let’s say, squeenix decided to censor her swimsuit.

never assumed you did, but remember this is clown world and slippery slope is real. we're basically in this mess because plenty of people said "I don't care, it's just a minor change", often added with some nice "bigot/incel/chud" or whatever. even small things add up over time.
that doesn't mean reflexively getting triggered by every little thing, but again it becomes a normal reaction at some point, that's how sensitivity/intolerance due to overexposure works.
that's why the smart course of action is not let it get this far in the first place, but it is what it is.

the problem is the "censorship" label often gets slapped onto everything, even if it doesn't make sense. it's good people are aware and make a fuzz, but it can easily swerve into "crying wolf" territory.
for example twitter/facebook etc. have to censor, which even extends to the farm, otherwise they simply can't conduct business or keep operating - doesn't even have to be "illegal" content (which is relative for a global service anyway since there's at least one country where it's allowed).
having to follow the terms of service isn't censorship, and anyone who disagrees can opt out of that service (unless that service becomes mandatory/a monopoly, but that's a different discussion anyway). not even the farms allow "free speech & expression" in it's true sense.

The stupid coomer bikini stuff feels like a distraction by Square to just how bad the overall story is based on the leaks. Because it really does like a script was vomited out after Yoshinori Kitase and Tetsuya Nomura binged watched Xavier Renegade Angel.
I am so hyped you have no idea. That sounds like my idea of a good time.

I understand, but I feel it's more important to censor certain things than to worry about that. Liberals love censorship because it works, conservatives are retards for trying to play fair against cheaters. Not that censoring cartoon cleavage is paramount or anything, I'm just speaking generally.

Well, Aerith’s breasts aren’t really nearly as big as Tifa’s or on display.
Fair, but neither are Yuffie's, and they get 2nd most attention.

If you don't care, then why are you even here arguing about? If you don't like the censorship, then why defend or downplay it?
Cleavage is sort of understandable to censor. If you guys wanna see a truly excessive instance, they apparently covered a bit of Ashley's stomach and arms in Another Code: Recollection.
