FF7 Rebirth can't top HellDivers 2 despite its "success," and might not do as well as Remake.
Of course they'll blame "muh Covid" and "muh inflation," ignoring the fact sales were hurt by bait and switch censorship, changes nobody wanted (no playable Cid and Vincent, some gay card game, etc.), and pissing on everything else people loved about the original FF7 (My head hurts from looking up the multiverse shit.).

It's more like Wizardy with choices that affect your gameplay in the long run. Before the newer games let you build a demon like the Jacks to 99, it was more about surviving what's thrown at you with disposable demons (they never leveled up until Nocturne or earlier with Devil Children. I'm not counting Persona). SMT has been more about killing gods and the supernatural than collecting and building demons like Pokemon (or waifus with Idun being waifu bait in SMTV).

Nobody outside of Japan and weeaboos gives a shit about Shinto.
The other difference is that Japan is still quasi-reverent to Shinto's trappings, to the point where it jams other things into its framework when it doesn't really make much sense.

The SMT devs are, to a man, counterculture rebels.
However, what happened to the counterculture rebels America used to have? Nowadays they actively simp for the US federal government, provided it is run by Democrats at the time.
What has any observant individual noticed about most "edgy" comedians? They obtain fame and fortune by attacking a mainstream target and enjoyed elite protection while doing so for the most part. Most would never go after actual sacred political cows of their social class, whether it be BLM, troons, yadda yadda.
In other words, @SSj_Ness is correct. The SMT devs picked a safe target and projected the problems they had with Japanese society onto them. The reason for this is that if they did not do so, there's a very reasonable chance that Japan, which is by and large still pretty nationalistic, would not have liked the games very much. This is also why Persona 5 doesn't actually follow through on its messaging. Japanese society itself is not a safe target without a thick layer of deniability, usually by way of a stand-in.

Why the fuck is there so much relationship drama in the FF7 Remake? I don't think relationships are that important when the world is about to be ended by a giant tentacle monster reanimated by a cartoonishly evil oil company that rules everything and her schizo bishieboy son.
I do remember there were a couple scenes where Tifa very blatantly hinted to liking Cloud in the original, but that's about it. Not fucking dates between Cloud and Tifa, Cloud and Aeris and Cloud and Yuffie (and Cloud getting sad over his dead gf Jennifer) meanwhile Sephiroth is preparing top buck break the human race and the Earth along with it. I don't care about dropping the turn based combat at this point, but we don't need another Persona.

Except that costume was used in other games like Dissidia, which is a fuck you to Tifa fans. They also censored and changed Cid while they made him a non-playable character (which is fucking stupid btw).

Giving any justification to go back to a 4 year old game and censor it is bad form. This is the same shit when they say "Live service games can be good". Yeah, sure it can, it just erodes your consumer rights further is all.
For a similar instance, it's like going through Roald Dahl's books and removing any reference to a person's weight or sex, basically anything found to be offensive.

Japan absolutely hates this game from the looks of it. They're gonna try to release FF16 on the PC, and hopefully the specs won't be a mess like Forspoken's requirements. I wonder if they're gonna try to force 16 down everyone's throats like they forced 15 on everybody (Too bad Noctis is still a faggot who ruined Tekken)?

Aya: Can't have an attractive skinny blond white girl as the protagonist in current year. I don't think she'll be full black though, it'll be a light-skinned half-black/half-white mutt (born from a BM/WM couple of course) who has a history of racist anti-white tweets. Has never played the game but will antagonize the fans Rachel Zegler-style (the Spic from Snow White). Weird, weird!
Daniel: He'll remain a black man but his 1990's masculinity is probably a bit too outdated in current year so they'll probably feminize him a bit by making him have "fashionable" clothes and lean in towards his supporting role by being passive and only does anything when Aya barks orders at him. His end game heroic act where he potentially sacrifices his own life to give Aya a fighting chance against the final boss will be cut. After all, Aya is a strong independent woman of color and we can't have her receiving help from the toxic patriarchy right?
Maeda: What happens to him I would say is harder to predict. I can think of 3 possibilities:
1. He'll remain an Asian man but his race will be Korean instead of Japanese. Instead of being an intelligent but socially awkward Asian man in a foreign land, they will erase the foreign aspect of Maeda and he'll be a confident and proud gay or bisexual queer man and a native of San Francisco. He'll also have a good fashion sense like Daniel except more gay.
2. He'll remain an Asian but will be a Korean woman instead. She'll be a strong and independent scientist LGBT woman.
3. If Eve is not a troon, then Maeda will be a MtF troon.
Eve: If Maeda is not a troon, then Eve will be a MtF troon. Troon or not, her race will probably be Hispanic, White or Mutt.
Like all the recent Disney female Villains, her origin story will be retconned. Eve is a "misunderstood" villain and she actually has good intentions and it was the white man/toxic patriarchy that made her the villain that she is. The deaths of innocent New Yorkers by Eve will brushed over/ignored as just NPC's.
There will be clear and explicit sexual tension between Aya and Eve including kinks like incest and lesbianism. This will satisfy the shippers.
Like the Barbie movie and the feminism-hating/mother-hating feminist propaganda in it, when Aya is fighting (aborting) the first form of the final boss, the abortion aspect will be played up to express why abortion "is a good thing."
