The Square Enix Griefing Thread

Sword of Mana is somewhat a remake to FFA. The male and female protagonists in that game are two different characters, not just usual pick your gender. They actually have some different perspective throughout the game in both story and gameplay. Considering original FFA, you only play as the boy and the girl is more like Princess Peach.
Threads of Fate (or Dewprism in Japan) had a similar split between a male and female protagonist, it's a very charming PS1 action RPG. (God I miss SquareSoft)
Interestingly enough, Hiromichi Tanaka (Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy XI, etc.) was a producer on both games.

I love that game, it's pretty overlooked.

There's also another option for the first Mana game, a more faithful remake called Adventures of Mana but it requires some hoops: it's only available on mobile and PS Vita. However, if you can get hands on it, it's a great way to enjoy the first game with some modern QoL. Just don't play it with touch controls.
Square Enix was supposed to release it on PC but never did, which doesn't surprise me since they did make a PC port for the Secret of Mana remake and that was dogshit.

I didn't play the secret of mana remake because I heard the voice acting and I wanted to cry. Did they ever actually patch all the shit?

Trials of mana was fun but then I got bored. I originally wanted to do an Angela/Duran/Reisz run but I did Reisz/Hawkeye/Charlotte instead. I can't remember how far in I got but I know it was definitely after the dwarf mine thing.

There's something about Visions that seems to be resonating with pretty much everyone. Even comments on pozzed sites like ResetEra, Gematsu, etc are all anticipating this. In particular for the graphics and environment. Sad can't do a Charlie's Angels team but I imagine the blonde girl can fill that role as a supporting character.

I'm playing Trials of Mana in the high sea edition since it somehow still pricy as fuck for a 3.5 year old game. I like the art but the gameplay is just basic shit action game. Question if it gets better or not.

same its a pretty great game.

I played it on high settings, clicked "maximize image quality" at the beginning, and I have a PC strong enough to run circles around a PS5. So why does it look this blurry? (no support for ultrawide screens, lol)

Also, Buzz Bees are anime girls now. Please return to tradition.

Square Enix Threatens To SUE Gamers

Square Enix, a company once nearly-universally celebrated for their iconic franchises like Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, have now taken a controversial stance against gamers daring to criticize their direction. While the failing gaming giant claims to 'value feedback', their recently published "Group Customer Harassment Policy" raises some serious concerns about whether they're actually, in reality, using legal threats as a weapon to silence dissent and discourage criticism.

So, I'm just in the middle of playing through the DS version of Dragon Quest VI and I just got to Alltrades Abbey and I was reading through the bookshelves and came across this:

Maybe I just spend too much time on the farms but that really looks like a subtle YWNBAW to me. Either way it was pretty funny to see something like that and kind of makes me appreciate the localizers a little more. It definitely seems like something that wouldn't make it into a game today.

That Gex release is looking really suspicious. It recently got a steam page. It doesn't even seem like they released any videos, or photos, showcasing the remastered version. It's almost two years now.
>This Carbon Engine powered collection includes extras and numerous improvements like that bring GEX back into prime time!
> like that bring GEX back into prime time!

Why does this sentence bother me? It's like it was written by someone that doesn't have English as a primary language. Also "numerous improvements" is a giant red flag unless I see otherwise because "improvements" is code for "censorship and/or removals".

Looking at the preview pics why are the 3D games 16:9 but not the 2D one? Seems pretty inconsistent IMO. Also why the fuck do you need 8GB of ram just to play this thing? That's one major flaw that annoyed the fuck out of me with all these re-releases, for whatever asinine reason they take up more resources than the original did.

I mean, for fuck sakes, you can find a GOG version of Gex right now, completely playable on a fucking potato, and only takes up 207MB of space. 10GB for three games!? Fucking really!?!? Also inb4 "PS1/Saturn" version, even though the 3DO version is superior since it had a save function instead of that lame password system.

numerous improvements like that bring GEX back into prime time!
The poojeet-made AI description generator couldn't even list any improvements at all, because there won't be any. 100% guaranteed these will be shittier than all past releases of these games. Anyone who shells out the money for this is a retard

If you really need your Gex fix that bad, 3DO will emulate on potatoes now and if you really need the graphics to look better, playing PS1 and N64 in 1080p, 4K or higher with widescreen hacks is trivial with modern emulators

The impression I'm getting is it did. Even at worst it showed a much better performance then as an exclusive and it made enough bank for square to ditch the idea of exclusives entirely and Pursue a multiplatform strategy.

There's rumors they are doing their best to port rebirth to switch 2 alongside remake
