They are absolutely held hostage.
as someone who has watched a lot of "extreme livestreaming", there are several things here that make this stand out a lot and in a very disturbing way from IP2 and similars:
- No matter how illegal and gross shit gets in IP2 , you are always sure of one thing: these junkie losers are not only consenting on it, they also really enjoy to do it, so while the shit they do may be illegal and sketchy, the context is in itself pretty "ok" (if that makes sense). this is not something i see here, here you see a very obvious master - slave relationship between Sorechenko and his .... well lets call them "victims" because thats basically what they are, they are forced to do this shit and are obviously in extreme pain and discomfort, and their consent on all of this is very sketchy and probally compromised by the weird "cult" atmosphere that surrounds this whole thing.
- Nearly everything you see in IP2 is common junkie and loser fare, there just happens to be a camera and a loudspeaker playing NIGGER soundbytes in the corner for some reason. This instead, is structured like some sort of fucked up reality show where these people are paid (? , that part is specially vague and needs further research) to basically torture each other for the sadistic glee of the audience, like some horror movie bullshit.
- Someone fucking died on this before , sure people also have died in IP2, but all of the cases (so far) have been either drug overdoses or incidents completely unrelated to IP2 (the recent hobo shooting incident may be an exception, but its inclusion in the IP2 "canon" is itself controversial ). Meanwhile here you have a direct and easily verificable death due to this show. WHAT. THE. FUCK!!!!!

TL: DR : this may be the single most fucked up thing i have ever seen being livestreamed to a live audience
I hope that's the case. I suspect she feels she can't, for whatever reason, even if she's free to. Anyone not being coerced somehow would've noped out ages ago, or at least tried to leave when their fuckin kid was taken away.
She might not be shackled there physically but looking at those pictures
@scumfuck posted, there's a good chance she's being chemically restrained or coerced. She doesn't look skaggy at the start, maybe she knows if she leaves now life will be almost as shit on the outside only without someone shooting her up every few hours.
Fuck, this is a really dark thread, innit. These people are fucked, and I have a sudden urge to go hug my loved ones and count my blessings.
Even if you don't want to read in between the line, the Life article makes it pretty clear they are being held as slave through debt (and that was going back as far as 6 years back). Much like you see in human trafficking.
He pays for your food and cigarettes, and you grow a debt, he deducts this from your own share to keep you subservient. I am guessing drugs are obviously part of the deal as well. If you account for the pain, there is no way they are not all junkies.
If you add to this the fact they are basically always in the same house, tortured for money or just for fun, they are basically being broken mentally. You can see how they flinch in the videos (for good reasons), and how they even have this internal hierarchy to keep the crabs in the bucket.
If they want to leave, they have to do so avoiding a full room of people who will stop them any occasion, if anything because they would be afraid to get beaten if they did nothing. It's so normalized at this point, nobody really thinks anything of it.
And even if you got out, where do you go from there? How do you get away from this fucking maniac with no money in a completely destroyed state with multiple addictions, wounds etc... It's not like you can turn to the police, they won't do shit.
If you got out and they bring you back somehow, I can guarantee they will input a debt for lost donations too.
Oh and he has one confirmed kill, one suspected. I would be afraid too.
The article mentions that this is modeled on Ukrainian prison where some are slaves to others. I'd venture to say prison might be better. Not by much, but probably.
