Has anyone played any of the Sword and Fairy series? It is a Chinese fantasy game series. Started in the 90s as a turn based rpg
the 7th game switched to real time combat

There's also a sim management spin off called Sword and Fairy Inn. There's two of those.

the series is definitely a hidden gem by far. Not perfect but serviceable.

Idk, judging by the images it's definitely walking the line of tolerable weebery, especially since it looks like the modern incarnation expects you to play as a waifu which is something I don't support on principle.

The plot sounds like gibberish, but it seems like a big deal overseas and apparently S&F7 is 50% off on Steam as of the time of writing this, so I guess if someone wants to dip their toe into sinophilia (?) now's their chance.

I wanna play them but have never got around to it. The music's really good though.
Too bad I can't find a soundtrack rip outside of a youtube video...
VGMRips has a bunch of other SoftStar games but not any Sword and Fairy.

They're hard to recommend unless you really like the theme. 6 is also pretty fucking terrible (even China hated it when it was released.)

It's kind of a shame that nobody seems interested in translating old-school Chinese RPGs though.

hey if the chinks still want to play as a cute girl I take that over any western alternative like redheaded nikocado...

but there's a demo up to (dunno if they translated it, the steam next fest demo years back was chinese only), it's easy to miss in the sidebar on the right.

iirc it's unreal engine, so should be easy enough to rip it (unless they went ahead and encrypted their gamefiles for some reason).

apparently that was more due to running like ass and being buggy

I'm interested in it, the games look good. I'll try it at some point.

7 changes it to a more action oriented game for the better
