The Taylor Swift craze is odd

I remember when she was in career decline for a number of years. 5 years ago she was considered to be a pop singer on the fringes who was ready to age out. Her "career high" was actually about a decade ago. But she started to fade by 2018.

I did watch her documentary during the pandemic and she was tearful through most of it feeling like she was losing control of her career and that she was on her way out. It was a very depressing watch. She also hinted at being lonely and not having anyone in her life other than her Mother, which was sad. It was like watching a woman regret her career and you got the feeling like she wanted to quit the business.

But suddenly now... She's back. There's a public craze around her that's on another level and her popularity has reached maximum insanity. Where were these fans 5 years back when her career was in such a slump?

Nothing about this makes much sense.

My conspiracy theory is that since she's the last white pop star that's still mildly attractive and not a complete broken nut case, the powers that be are propping her up as a distraction or something.
IDK, it's just weird how after a decade of Kpop and Ghetto noise becoming mainstream, they decide to bring her back out of left field.

That is what I mean. Her sound is completely out of step to what's been being pumped out for the last several years. There's no way Gen Z and the oldest of Gen Alpha are so enthralled by her. I have a hard time believing a teen under 16 would even know who this woman is. It's very weird.

My nigga, did you miss the whole Beetles resurgence a few years ago?
We're on the algorithm ride now, as new generations get on entertainment apps, they'll be directed toward what was historically popular for their age group, and their interests sold by Google to entertainment platforms.

Good, there was that rumor many years back that she was a 4chan user, and the evidence seemed pretty compelling, so hopefully she does well for herself. If we could surreptitiously insert more shitlords into positions of influence society might finally see the change Obama promised us.

Taylor Swift really wanted to move on to movies. And to be in movies she had to be an open shitlib, because it's a requirement in american movie industry to be one. Even then, they made her take classes how to act like a cat, and put her in the terrible movie cats. It didn't stop her ambitions.

She also personally got invested into it. She got to the age where you start to feel responsible for the world, but before you understand you can do little to change things.

I read somewhere an unconfirmed account from another singer who was in the same scene as Taylor when she was up and coming. Basically the short version of it was even at these early years she was easily shoving rivals aside and getting all the plumb gigs and rising above an ocean of people arguably as talented or even more talented.

Presumably she was anointed as the next big celebrity pop singer from the beginning/a very early stage. I guess it shouldn't come as a surprise. Music even compared to other entertainment industries is notorious for manufacturing their talent. And pop music especially so. A lot if not all the big names are more akin to product. Designed and packaged from the very beginning.

The classic tale of a kid organically crawling up the ladder to become a superstar musician on their own being a myth from a forgotten age.

You guys are overthinking this. The reason Taylor has maintained popularity throughout the years is because unlike most other pop acts, she managed to reinvent her sound to run the gamut of every white girl emotion from ages 16-35. Swifties are the way they are because they built a parasocial relationship with her from back in the pop-country days when they were also love-struck teenagers and had similar feelings about boys and romance. Unlike most one-note pop acts, Taylor didn't stick to one genre and has adapted to the female zeitgeist with almost every album release so she always manages to remain relevant to her fans' lives. They see her as a mirror and are invested in her success like it is their own.

Don't get me wrong, the stan phenomenon is still fucking weird and off-putting, but it's hardly unique to Taylor. Once the media realized that Taylor's fanbase is rabid for her, they start sinking money into constantly covering Taylor because it's guaranteed interactions. This in turn creates a feedback loop where everyone talks about Taylor, which causes her to generate more buzz, which leads to her continued success, which leads to everyone talking even more about Taylor. Combine this with the fact that she is an extremely unproblematic celebrity (people had to come at her for her fucking private jet of all things because she's about as controversial as milk and cereal) and her ongoing relationship story; it all makes her a perfect media darling. This doesn't have to be a conspiracy, she just has all the right things going for her and nothing has thrown a major wrench in her success.

She’s a basic bitch white girl who appeals to basic bitch white girls, of which there are many. The music industry put all their eggs into brown and black whores like Lizzo, Olivia Rodrigo, Halsey, etc. and with few exceptions, they’re flops. So now they went all in one of the few pop singers that actually make money. How long will it last? Who knows. I think there’s such poor options in mainstream music these days that she might be popular for a long time because nobody wants to hear some negress ook and eek while twerking.

It really is odd. I know a couple of people who have been fans of her for her entire career, but aren't as obsessed as other people. It all feels extremely manufactured and I don't know why people are getting so crazy over her. I remember a few years ago, a family member was gifted a Taylor Swift album on vinyl to go with the record player they received. They were confused and said they hadn't really thought about her for several years. Now they are completely obsessed with her now that's its become "cool" again.
