Firing out the flare to any remote listeners.

Recent trends: trance is back, trap drops will get you attention, people are not tired of ambient synths, Drumcode clones are everywhere, Beatport's leftfield house & techno category will not kill tech-house - it cannot die, people really do hate Afterlife and it wasn't just a meme.

A lot of people were pretty dissapointed with that Ancient Methods album, but Regis is good so that's probably the best of that, I much preferred that 12" that he put out a couple of months ago over that though.

Nice. I know fuck all about this genre, but I'm liking what's been posted. Still can't tell the difference between a lot of this and the technogoth stuff (save occasional singing in fake Germanic accents on the latter).
A lot of the list was on the dark/industrial end, it used to be a rather more minimal genre but now everybody wants to have some kind of hook to stand out. The shared industrial influence does have similarities to ibm/aggrotech, but that has more hardcore influence and dirty sound, modern techno focuses more on production. Dark techno also has a lot of crossover between regular industrial techno and goth club music - I tend to find when Youtube is leading me to songs that have gas masks in the thumbnails, I am in the wrong end of town. It's easier to distinguish with golden era (early 00s) techno:

The AM definitely outwore its welcome a bit, I think they've been hanging out with Dominick Fernow too much, as his albums have the same effect.

Can some techno nerds give me some recommendations?

I'm looking for some darker or spooky techno that is incredibly redundant, but still good and with no vocals. It's gotta have a "beat" - be in 4/4 basically. Any recs?

One of my faves... Can never really go wrong with the Wizard.

I still stick with the groups I came to love when I was in high school. BT, Underworld, Orbital (whom I was overjoyed to see got back together!), Crystal Method.

ESCM still fucking holds up. Fight me.

This also, @Yellow Yam Scam. Mario J and Murat... one of my prized pieces of vinyl.

Nice. What do I look up to find more of this sound?
I would look up the record label Method 11:11 to start. Not sure if it is still around, but this was Mario J’s imprint with fellow DJ Kenny Glasgow. They started this label in the late 90’s. At the time both Mario and Kenny played a lot of tech house and darker techno. I know Kenny is still very active and primarily produces and spins techno though not sure in what directions he evolved after the late 90’s and his style now. Pretty sure Murat went darker. I think if you look up Murat, Mario J, Kenny Glasgow and Method 11:11 records you should find some stuff with similar vibe.

Going back on what I said very slightly but I picked up this record the other week and it's kind of trance-y BUT GOOD.
200K views but 44 records sold ?

Nathan Micay who is a rookie producer but has some trance-y leanings who had a release on the rated whities label went a bit too far with his upcoming release, it sounds like the sort of thing Sasha used to play. This one is still a stonker though:

A lot atm is leaning towards a 90s rave revival sound, and some of that comes quite close to hard trance:

This is not such a direct example, but is a perfect fusion of 90s sound with modern atmosphere:
