Long story short, Dev used to be heavily antiquated with known troon Lillith Lovett, hosting a podcast with him and another YTer named Scrump. Dev often gives off the impression that Lillith has him on a leash, and he gets a lot of flack for trying to "both sides" a lot of issues, and that includes him bending over for troons, like what happened during the Dylan Mulvaney Bud Light incident in 2023.

That, and Dev's often embarrassed himself in a lot of public places, like Arch's podcast, or the many times he went after Vtuber Kirche. I still like most of Dev's videos, given they're more politically neutural in a world of HBomberGuys, but I can perfectly understand why people hate him.

Dev can make good videos, he often chooses not to however. Most people that hate him used to like him tbh.

Since we are talking about Phil Fish, one of the craziest parts about his history is the fact that a documentary on him was the reason why Notch sold Minecraft to Microsoft. There was a video by breadtuber Innuendo Studios called "This is Phil Fish" which Notch saw and he realized that the controversy surrounding FEZ mirrored the controversy people had with him, this scared him and he decided to sell out Minecraft in order to distance himself from his own creation

It's interesting but i don't quite buy it, what i believe is that the video helped to finalize his decision since the official reason why phil sold everything was his egomania, asshole behavior and a lack of capacity to handle pressure while Notch realized he had no longer a place in modern culture with him having right leaning libertarian views

On media that was popular on Tumblr, long ago i read on the encyclopedia dramatica that Firefly stole many elements so blatantly from an anime called outlaw Star that even the Wikipedia pointed this out, turns out that when some people pointed this out fans of said series chimped the fuck out so much that the fact had to be deleted from the wiki, this case is also used by critics of Joss whedon to point out he is not very original

Tumblr loved him, yet behind the scenes he berated a ton of women and treated them poorly anyway, and was one of the major victims of #MeToo.

The thing is that how much does modern media relies from ripping off from japanese media, we know that Joss whedon stole from (then) obscure 90s ovas, we know that the modern steven universe likes also stole from more mainstream anime like utena or sailor moon, how much of modern series are made by late 90s weebs trying to imitate their favorite anime ?
