The Tumblr Files - Official Thread (Case I: Steven Universe) - An exposé on the media and people that destroyed the Internet

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
Like you could have just focused on the war shit, sprinkle the relationships in lightly, have the occasional emotional episode, and that would have solved 90% of the problems. Also go to a 22 minute episode format. Fuck short episodes.
It says something when Gravity Falls only had 2 Seasons and 40 half-hour episodes, and that show was far better recieved overall than Steven (Or at least it wasn't as polarizing.) There's a lot of fat in SU they could've trimmed out and had the show completed by mid-to-late 2017. I sometimes wonder if they wanted to drag out the show's lifespan so it could truly have that "cultural impact" that both Rebecca and Shmorky wanted.

The cultural impact is people will remember Gravity Falls 10-20 years from now. You can watch it in around a week if you no life and you'll come away with something because the story and characters are tight. SU just wandered around a lot. If you did a fan edit of the show, only taking out plot critical elements from otherwise filler episodes and just keeping the plot critical ones, I bet you could shave half the runtime off and lose nothing.

So Sugar is basically Quinn, but in cartoons? I mean, she didn't fuck her way into industry, but ended up there thanks to connections she had(while also having some skeletons in her closet), created some incredibly mediocre bullshit that pandered to the worst people possible, got praised by woke media thanks to having a vagina and every attempt at criticizing her or her media was marked as "hatred towards women, gays or pedos" by default.

Sugar is more like a combination of the animation industry's usual nepotism (which is honestly more like being able to do the damn nightmare of a job without having a mental breakdown or being a John K, more than any talent), being in the right place with the right pitch, and the Hollywood and internet echo chamber patting her ass. If there were an equivalent, it would be like making a "stunning and brave" queer video game with a budget behind it, when the indie and international scene had already been doing it for years and drummed up all the support without any money or international network exposure. The handling of Korra and the response triggered a lot of this.

There's a Quinn comparison to be made somewhere, but I think it's how ingrained she is in the industry and how close she is with the "critics".

Currently hard at work on Case II. Right now, the document I'm writing in has almost reached 12 pages. For comparison, the Steven Universe case was 9 pages.
How far back are you going? The Tumblr menace of autistic teenage girls spending too much time talking about cartoons fucking is almost as old as 4chan talking about fucking teenage girls in cartoons.

The Tumblr Files mainly covers media that was popular in, or blew up during, 2015 and early 2016.

The existence of @Jaiman and his documented sickfuckery would beg to differ on that.
Yes, but MLP I don't think was pozzed from the word "go" for a good few years. At least I didn't hear about stuff like that for years having not been in the fandom to begin with.

"Clopping" was probably a thing by 2011, though, so...

MLP rapidly became pozzed due to the fact it was a little girls' cartoon that attracted a teenage/adult male audience.

Even if it's possible to simply be an autist who thinks the character designs are nice and that the story is comparatively well written to other similar cartoons done to promote girly toys (your mileage may vary), it's not long before less innocent people flood the fandom.

This isn't an enlightening remark by any means but the way CN propped her as THE FIRST WOMAN SHOWRUNNER or whatever in an attempt to be feminist only ends up, ironically, further obscuring the actual female arists in the industry that have been there for ages.

Like Mary Blair, whose art is undoubtably beautiful and meaningful, unlike Sugars LOL

great thread. Will the tumblr files cover Voltron? It should.

Wait a minute, everyone knows about SU fanbase attacking some tumblr artist over her drawings of the characters not being ugly enough until she allegedly tried to an hero, but I've heard something about them attacking a cancer kid who wanted to see the new episodes early for obvious reasons. What about that?

Some kid who got a Make-a-Wish wish granted (to meet Rebecca Sugar) got to watch one of the new episodes early and shared some plot info. Someone semi-"big" in the Steven Universe "community" (ugh) was on Twitter and said some stuff about how they shouldn't have shared stuff, including one now-deleted tweet (they apologized for) that made it sound like they were insinuating the kid was happy about having been sick enough to be part of MAW.

All I know about Voltron is that it's basically "the Fujo show". The only thing its fans ever cared about during its run was which ships would get confirmed instead of the show being good or not.

(Also, turns out it's getting removed from Netflix this December.)

It's true that voltron really faded into obscurity. Back then it was as unavoidable as Steven universe to be honest. I guess it died down with a whimper. I didn't know the Netflix thing, but I'm not surprised. It wasn't a good show.

have you seen the Rebecca sugar drawings that got leaked? Apparently she drew sketches between greg and pearl and amethyst and Sadie. It made a few rounds on cartoon twitter, the same way like when she drew that rock gem thing that people called racist lol.
