The United Nations is finally taking on the REAL issues - Attractive women in advertising

From promoting the murder of the unborn, to advancing anti-Semitism, to propping up Saudi Arabia to promote "gender equality," the United Nations doesn't exactly have the best reputation in the world. But in a brilliant move to show off their moral courage and highlight their priorities, the U.N. is tackling the ever-important issue of hot girls in bikinis trying to sell you burgers on TV.

That's right, the U.N. will now be fighting against sexist advertisements, including depictions of women which perpetuate "gender norms."

Finally.

On Thursday, the U.N. officially announced their launch of Unstereotype Alliance, a campaign in partnership with Twitter, Facebook, Google, and Johnson & Johnson, among other companies, to fight such injustice.

"Today, UN Women in partnership with Unilever and industry leaders including WPP, IPG, facebook, Google, Mars, Microsoft and J&J, announce the launch of the Unstereotype Alliance — a new global Alliance set to banish stereotypical portrayals of gender in advertising and all brand led content," says the Unstereotype Alliance press release.

“Every day, hundreds of millions of people around the world are exposed to the communications our industry creates,” WPP Chief Executive Martin Sorrell told The Huffington Post. “That influence can either be used to reinforce negative stereotypes or to set new standards of empowerment and equality.”

UN Women, an organization which claims to champion gender equality, is working alongside the Unstereotype Alliance campaign. "The organization works consistently to disrupt stereotypes and engage diverse constituencies on gender equality, such as news media, men and boys, youth and faith-based leaders, and has carried out important research focusing particularly on men," says the press release.

The goal of the campaign is to get brands from across the globe "to advance advertising away from stereotypical portrayals of gender."

“This is a very important next step in the Unstereotype mission. Every Alliance member has done extremely valuable work in this space and now it's time to come together to drive impact at scale. Unstereotype should be the norm for all brands, not a differentiator for a select few," said Executive Vice President of Global Marketing for Unilever Aline Santos.

So, there ya have it: the U.N. might not be on top of its game when it comes to fighting for the rights of all Muslim women, or for the right to life of the unborn, the most vulnerable and voiceless among us, or fighting anti-Semitism, but you can bet they'll be doing everything in their power to rid the world of depicted stay-at-home mothers bringing dad dinner and those bikini-clad chicks eating burgers on the hood of a car.

Priorities.

Oh, so they'll have women working as CEOs and men staying at home with Swifter Wet Jets and black people buying home loans and Asians being athletes instead of salarymen and.... wait a minute.... they've been doing this. For decades now.

Anycase, since I use adblockers and I haven't had cable in years, guess this is a lost gesture on me. Shame, really.

Has the UN accomplished anything? Other than turning the frogs gay of course.
