Re: Why didn't he get into Thomas the Tank Engine?

Thomas the tank is far to British and boring for Chris. I liked it as a toddler but it doesn't really hold a candle to real cartoons.

Re: Why didn't he get into Thomas the Tank Engine?

I'm actually surprised too. The toys seemed like a perfect fit for Chris.

Re: Why didn't he get into Thomas the Tank Engine?

Eh, I watched Thomas when I was a kid, but grew out of it.

But that was in the 90's, when Chris was entering his teens. Most spergs who are into Thomas are either my age (late teens-early twenties) or British. The key point being that they were introduced to it when they were really young.

Re: Why didn't he get into Thomas the Tank Engine?

he was too busy watching american rabbit

Re: Why didn't he get into Thomas the Tank Engine?

Chris enjoys bright colors, funny animals, action, etc.

Thomas has none of that.

American Rabbit was about a decade before Thomas The Tank Engine hit the United States. American Rabbit was the 80's, and as I recall, Thomas didn't come to America until the 90's. I may be wrong, but eh, it's not real important anyway.

The reason why Chris didn't get into Thomas is because he was already into Sonic by the time Thomas started to get mainstream exposure here in the States. That's my theory anyway. If he were born in 1992 instead of 1982, he might have very well been a huge Thomas sperg.

Re: Why didn't he get into Thomas the Tank Engine?

Is it just me or do we have a lot of "Why wasn't Chris into X" threads lately? I'd point out that we only hear about the things he's into that he either wrote into his comics or felt compelled to talk at people about. I'm sure he did, and does, watch everything on TV that's intended for children or mental children.

This, like, he's into a bunch of things that he doesn't sperg about publicly. Like TMNT for example.

If nothing else can we have a catch all "Why Doesn't Chris Like (blank)" thread?

Britishness didn't stop Chris from liking Monty Python.

Re: Chris and Megaman

He does own mega man I believe. The only reason I remember this is cuz IIRC in the myamoto saga with list of games he did write Megan Man as its title

Re: Why didn't he get into Thomas the Tank Engine?

I'm sorry, but,

Same with the other threads like this, just because he's not sperging about something doesn't mean he's not into it. He could be watching Thomas the Tank Engine right now, and he doesn't have to be freaking out over it. I sperg about Evil Dead all the time on this board, but that's not all I like. I like Back to the Future, that doesn't mean I constantly post about it. And really, why do we care if he is or isn't into one specific thing?
Angry rant over.

Re: Why didn't he get into Thomas the Tank Engine?

Yeah I don't really understand these "why isn't Chris into X?" threads. Oftentimes it's just because he isnt nothing more to it. Chris isn't into Thomas the tank, proportionally not many people on this big wide world are.

However I'd disagree with spaps point about "just cuz I don't sperg constantly doesn't mean I don't like it" regarding Chris. The only things you can have a conversation with him about are his spergy obsessions (as evidenced by the interview.) Chris may be aware of other things, but he doesn't like them like normal people.

Comparing Chris and spaps (for arguments sake), I can talk to spaps about evil dead, but then I can evolve the conversation on the other shit, like zombies, or horror movies or whatever, something that's not his sperg subject. Spaps would also probably be able to uphold a conversation about shit doesn't care about either (say if I started sperging about some shitty horror film).

Chris is incapable of doing this. It seems very much like Chris is either "talk for 6 straight hours about it" or "no comment". The guru larry interview shows this. Interviews are supposed to naturally progress and whilst I know larry isn't the most articulate person in the world, there are times when to can see him ushering in a new topic slowly and Chris just drags them back to his LBP sperg. He probably does enjoy other shit, but major passively to the point where I ge the feeling he has no opinion. Like he has no vague interests, it's either love or "I've seen that yes. Now lemme sperg about something else"

(random text wall I know, but if I spew enough bollocks this thread might become productive

Re: Why didn't he get into Thomas the Tank Engine?

If I come back from watching Hell's Kitchen and there isn't a picture of manchild's face on a toy train, I'll know what to do.

Re: Why didn't he get into Thomas the Tank Engine?

I think Thomas the Tank Engine was the wrong era for him, and the wrong nationality for him.

It is akin to asking why he wasn't into "Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons" or "Uchuu Senkan Yamato"

Re: Why didn't he get into Thomas the Tank Engine?

It's also possible that Thomas is too phallic for Chris, and causes even more unbidden images of cocks to flood his mind.

Thats my personal theory, anyway.

I was listening to the Father Call the other day, and Chris said that he watched 4 hours of TV a day back then (and if anything it's probably more now). I pretty much assume that includes every single kids' show out there. Whether he "likes" them or just uses them as a mental numbing agent is an open question, but it's probably a safe bet that he's watched a grand amount of any given show.

This made me chuckle. The reason: When I was small, I liked the Railway Series (the children's books on which the TtTE show is based). I actually learned to read with the very first Thomas book.

Back then, my mother put me in an art school for children, a fine place where you could paint, sculpt, etc. One day, I choose to make a fairly large Henry (around 40 cm in length) out of clay. After it had been burnt and painted, I showed it to my mom. The art teacher said though: "This is clearly a phallic symbol, but this is normal for boys at that age!"

To be honest, said clay Henry had as much similarity with the locomotive I had wanted to sculpt as Chris's Sonic totem with the video game character. To my defense I must add that I was around 6 (not 16).

Nah, that's really not the case. People frequently seem to see Chris in absolute terms a lot more than than's actually the case. I mean, it's not unreasonable, because, y'know, autism. It's like people assuming absolutes about his mcdonalds consumption and his other interests. Sure, Chris mostly spergs about what everyone associates him with (because he's said public things about them) but he's still had other, little cartoons interests and video games he's played and he actually has opinions on them sometimes.

Those opinions are mostly the same as his recent Sonic rant. Usually him complaining about something that pissed him off. And even if he's talking about some minor interest of his that no one's aware of, he still knows some relatively obscure details about them. Or they're obscure to me. Like apparently there was a girl turtle in some TMNT show at one point?
