The WIcker Man (1973) appreciation thread.

Know a place online where you can read it, all copies I find are expensive.
The first six chapters can be read here:

If you like Wicker Man, I would recommend Eye of the Devil (1967):

I don't know if it influenced Wicker Man (the book on the making of the film would answer that,) but it has a lot of plot similarities. It's also Sharon Tate's movie debut (it was made before but released after some of her other movies,) and seeing her in this film is an extremely haunting experience.

As the resident horror aficionado of the Farms, I'm curious to know what you think of my idea for a proper modern American take on The Wicker Man? Is it a good idea with potential?

If this were ever made, I'd change the title from The Wicker Man to The Cunning Man.

The title is a bit of a double meaning, it's a reference to the "cunning men", the folk magicians and faith healers of Appalachian folklore, and a more literal reference to Summerisle being a cunning sociopath who uses Howie's biases and prejudices to play him like a damn fiddle.

The idea of transplanting The Wicker Man to any other place, or time, is just bad. It can’t be duplicated, or even reasonably replicated, as it was as much of a generational conflict as anything else due to the way British hippies were embracing Celtic pagan imagery and beliefs at the time the movie was made.

Remove the story from its time, place and culture and you lose the meaning entirely and are just making a cargo cult sequel.
