For everyone else I've encountered over 60...
not even 60 old fossils, youngsters too.
source: the youngins on my classes (:_( if they are this fucking braindead with win11 it's easy guess it'll be far worse if it was linux, they are fucking ninjas with their android phones sure but make them touch a mouse&keyboard and see them age 70 fucking years, young as in 11+, not 7- ish.
this is why you can safely say linux ain't taking off, until it's so retard proof on a mac/windows level, it'll never take off.

You've been living with computers too long. You don't understand normies.

My parents are the only people I trust to deal with Linux, and they're an odd intersection of analytic, tech-aware, requiring browser-only, and cheapskates, so they get some of their old laptops refurbed and are willing and capable to deal with it.

For everyone else I've encountered over 60 for whom tech isn't their job or hobby, trying to accustom them to W11's minor interface changes is like waterboarding, but introducing them to Linux distro eccentricities is like forced drowning. The average tech-illiterate normie views dealing with an OS like some combination of doing paperwork, performing a bomb defusing, and rooting around in a basketful of vipers. Their interactions with an OS are more akin to rituals than any nuanced attempt at understanding that OS's functions, and they want to learn as few rituals as possible to get their shit done. Anything out-of-scope risks offending the Ruinous Powers, anything different is a new demon whose placation must be left to a skilled warlock (tech support), and any hint of a command line means "hacker," though the way they say it they might as well mean "necromancer."

Just think of how little most inept dilettante nerds like me really know about computers, take even that away, and replace it with superstition, learned helplessness, and gormlessness. They were taught in the Before Times (a brief period of neuroplasticity) how to command some of the weakest demons that inhabit Windows, and by God that's all they're ever going to be able to handle, if even that.

I know. I work with, assist, and despair over these people daily.
This crowd does great with iPadOS, even my 93 year old grandmother can handle it. An iPad for geezers and chromebooks for kids is the real "if you only need a browser" system.

Okay, so I "upgraded" to windows 11 a few months ago and I have hated it. Apart from the start button and other controls being moved from where I have found them since Windows 95 it is just slow and for the first time since windows ME I have been getting the blue screen of death. This is not good since once I got use to it I Windows 10 ran fine doing the exact same things on the exact same computer.

Then I found this a couple weeks ago and ran it, now Windows 11 runs faster than Windows 10 and I have not had one crash, even when making a large 4K video file. So great job to the people who made this program but this does mean Microsoft programed a perfectly good OS and then decided to kneecap it by adding a bunch of bloat no one needs that makes the OS pretty much useless, WHY WOULD THEY DO THAT! Whoever decided to do that needs to be blacklisted from ever working on computers again.

download a couple of drivers and install LTSC IoT, it has no drivers and bloat to fuck it up and you won't need to constantly debloat it for every update.

Need to sign Documents or forms with fields for people to fill out? There really isn't a decent PDF editor for Linux and Acrobat Standard/Pro doesn't function very well (if at all) under the OS.
How do you guys digitally sign documents? Do you just plaster a png on top or what?

But your grandmother could switch to a Linux desktop, and thus be using Linux (the benefit being that she'd be using Linux).

>Work PC, have to use Windows because what else are you gonna do, bitch?
>Constantly downloading .pdfs that I then need to open with a different application
>Go to 'Downloads->"Show in Folder"' to open with needed application, workflow is too niche to bother changing file associations
>It's literally Russian Roulette odds that that newly-opened Windows Explorer window's file selection pane will lock up, preventing me from selecting files and forcing me to close and re-open a Windows Explorer window in the downloads directory

This is surmountable, it really isn't that big of a deal, but it's all so slipshod and also not a problem I had on Windows 10. What tinpot bullshit in exchange for a shiny coat of paint. I barely use the new tab feature I was looking forward to because every shortcut and app just opens a new Windows Explorer window anyways.

What, your workplace is still mentally stuck in 2006 and believes that you must install Acrobat to open PDF's? Even though SumatraPDF exists, you already have a perfectly usable PDF reader and you might not be even aware you're using it right now to read this.

The national newspaper keeps fearmongering and hand wringing about Windows 10 no longer getting updated and that it will cause security problems. So I have been thinking about it and I would rather kill myself than use Windows 11 or pay for a subscription based Windows 10 security. So, will I truly face any problems with staying on Windows 10?

1) Microsoft is giving free ESU if you buy into their MS Account BS
2) Microsoft Activation Scripts can enable these for free
3) You can force your Win10 22H2 install to be downgraded to Win10 21H2 LTSC and then activate it with MAS
4) Stop reading mainstream media like a nigger cattle and buying into uneducated misinforming bullshit

This is the best way to go if you want to stick with Windows 10 on existing hardware. Windows 10 22H2 did not introduce any new features and is fully binary compatible with 21H2, so you're not missing out on anything. The only real negatives you'll experience relate to manufacturers ending security updates for their drivers long before the EOL of the system, but this can often be circumvented by forcibly installing drivers intended for enterprise SKUs of what is essentially the same hardware intended for use on Windows Server 2022.

It's impossible to say you'll have no problems but you as an individual will not be targeted which is a risk for businesses and government entities.

If you remember in the old days we would all use Windows XP as an administrator with no antivirus because they were terrible for performance and XP had a ton of holes that never got patched, we were fine as long as we weren't running shady EXEs and kept an up to date browser. The threat environment is different today but more or less you're ok if you have half a brain and are keeping your PC at home behind a router NAT.

Plus Windows 10 will have updates through at least 2032 if you really want them.

On another topic, is there a good way to debloot Windows 11 on ARM? I forgot to back up the VM I use on my Mac and had to start from scratch. Seems like LTSC doesn't exist there?

I disagree. thing is, it doesn't necessarily matter if normies use it anymore and let me explain why.
The desktop is dying like you said, and everyone has moved to phones and tablets, this means that savvy desktop people are sticking too desktops while the desktop market is shrinking, ergo the windows market is shrinking, and those savvy people are going to be a lot more prone to spitting in the face of microsoft when microsoft spits in theirs. in this manner linux will dominate the computer market (not the mobile market) in the future.

most people won't want to continue using windows and already don't, those that do usually have a hard time leaving it due to vendor lock-in rather than a love for the micrococktoid platform. microsoft fucked over their longterm health, you people are way too blackpilled.

so in short linux won't take off, it will survive and grow slightly. while windows will slowly decline and die as fewer and fewer people continue to use traditional desktop/laptop setups. which is both a good thing and a bad thing, but mostly good to see windows go away.

that's actually fucking weird.
the news channels here in monkeyzil are all saying that jeetsoft will still support windows 10 for an extra while, not even with the microsoft store stuff, just plain saying jeetsoft will continue to give updates.
i think that's probably because many of the SA is poor and therefore have no TPM-friendly motherboards/cpu's which means Jeet11 can't be installed, weird innit?

Requiring TPM motherboards will make turd worlders unable to get on the internet? I fucking love Micro$oft now!
