Windows at least has an RE, and one that even a noob can navigate. Most Linux distros only leave you with chroot.

BTW, I recommend a Macrium Reflect recovery drive for offline backup and restore as well as simple offline filesystem repairs. It literally is a Windows RE, but one that doesn't get screwed up by updates because it's never updated in the first place.

I don't get it, we didn't have a recovery system in Windows for the longest time and now it's an essential feature?

If someone is too dumb to figure out safe mode IMO they're too dumb to understand a recovery screen.

Linux's equivalent of "safe mode" being a fullscreen terminal or a live CD has always been a bigger issue.

It never solved any issue with broken Windows installation in my case. Most of results combine some DCIM shit command that is useless and doesn't find the problem with boot option.

Windows, how about you start to add a debug during Safe Mode boot so I could determine what is fucked up, huh? I ain't looking for boot log left somewhere inbetween Windows path.
 
The last two cumulative Windows updates have

1 - fried SSDS
2 - broken USB support for external peripherals

Jesus Christ, is this that elite human talent from India corpos keep sperging over?

Like 90% of Microsoft is Indian, or relies on Indian labor. Not only do they appreciate the scam, they probably heavily rely on the scam for their business partners.
 
The only reason why Windows has Windows RE anyways is because most users are unlikely to have the installation disk or usb drive with all the recovery tools handy, or are unable to make one. I think I still have rescutux on my ventoy drive and that's far more useful then Windows RE

What teriyakiburns said and also they still make a buck off of data collection on those illegitimate copies. MAS is the highest starred PowerShell project on GitHub which belongs to Microsoft and they don't give a shit. I've heard rumors that internally Microsoft also sometimes uses MAS simply because it's convenient.

Don't forget that those free ISO's you can get from Microsoft's website only need activation if you want to customize the visuals and get rid of that watermark, otherwise Windows 10/11 is an infinite trial and that's been their business model for many years now. All things considered, the activators are just a cosmetic change to what Microsoft already offers and they still make the bulk of the licensing money on OEM installs and enterprise customers.

Dude every single piece of information I found told me that I needed to buy a hardware TPM to install Windows 11 because I have a 7th gen Intel processor and it's unsupported

But 7th gen Intel supports firmware TPM as an option in the bios. It's supposedly not enabled by default but most boards seem to enable it by default anyways

So.... why the fuck are 7th gen processors unsupported again? It's purposefully ambiguous Jewish lawyer nonsense

I have several SSDs with it, and it's a selectable option in Rufus. You probably can put it as an image on a Ventoy, but I haven't tested that yet. (What you definitely can do is set up a VM with a Windows installation and boot the VHD via Ventoy, albeit without Secure Boot.)

You normally create such systems from within a functioning system, just like you would with a Linux bootstick or SSD. If your system happens to not run Windows, you probably will have some different software that hopefully supports imaging Windows To Go. A quick Google search outputs WoeUSB as an option, but I haven't tested it.

So, apparently, the message doesn't go away if you block Microsoft's telemetry servers, e.g., via your Windows' hosts file or a firewall blocklist. The solution is to temporarily re-enable/unblock telemetry (you may have to restart), search for updates again. I need to quote myself again, because there is an even easier and more straightforward way to fix the issue. It works without even having to reboot.

1. Open the file \ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\OneSettings\UsoSettings.json (in your root drive, e.g., C) with a text editor with admin rights.
2. Position the cursor after the comma preceding "DISABLEIMAGESONTOASTS" (last option).
3. Insert "ESODATESTRING":"2055-10-15T00:00:00",.

That's literally all. Found it in the comments at the BornCity blog (German).

I have a 7th Gen Intel Cpu and had to do the workaround to get Windows 11 going and wondered the same thing. Copilot says this:
