The Witcher Game Series

Is the plot of The Witcher 3 connected with the previous two games? I've never played any of them, so I'm not sure if I should get them first.

Also, I hope CD Projekt Red will finally get to work on Cyberpunk 2077 after this.

Yeah I'm pretty fucking hyped. I really enjoyed the previous 2 games and what they've shown so far really blows me away. The size of The Witcher 3 and the attention to detail that I've been seeing in previews...my brain can't comprehend. Can't wait to get my hands on the game. Hopefully my Collector's Edition arrives the same day as release, but I'm probably going to be disappointed.

I'm playing through Witcher 1, then moving to 2. The only things that annoy me are the dice games and the console like UI for selecting the amount of money I want to pay a hooker. I don't suppose they fixed that in 2 did they?

I'm pretty sure the plot of 3 is connected to the first two games. Hell, if the game can pick up previous actions from a save from the previous games, it would cement that even further.

There's a scene after the first section of the game where Geralt gets interviewed and asked questions about his actions during the second game. The answers you give are based on key choices you have to make in The Witcher 2.

This video gives a little background and context to each choice. It's from Playstation Access as Wild Hunt is the first Witcher game to hit Playstation consoles, but it's still of use if you don't plan on playing the second game, or even just want a recap.

Holy fuck I'm loving this game to absolute death. This game makes me feel like a kid again, rediscovering gaming. The story is absolutely gripping, side quests are excellent, the combat is great, exploration beats any other game that I know, the game is absolutely dripping with atmosphere, etc etc. It's so hard to stop playing because there's just so much I want to do. You can really tell that CDProjekt Red have poured their souls into this game. My definite Game of the Year and possibly my favorite RPG.

Dice is gone, Gwent takes its place. And let me tell you, Gwent is fucking majestic. You usually need to play some quests and spend coin in shop to get some cards in your deck that are good (cards are 20-40 Crowns each I believe). Once you've built your deck, you do some quests, get these really nice, rare cards. Then the rest is up to strategy. There's different factions in Gwent: Monster, Scoia'tael, Nilfgaard, and Northern Realms. The Monster faction is a giant melee powerhouse, the Scoia'tael are a mix between using ranged and melee, Nilfgaard I have yet to figure out, and the Northern Realms are the most balanced faction.

A little OT

But I'm a big fan of those Clueless Gamer vids. They always make me laugh, why can't he be that funny on TV?

Sigi Reuven
or more well known as Sigismund Dijkstra, ex spymaster from Redenia
has been my favorite character interacting with Geralt, as both snark the hell of each other and being fair for a crime boss. Like the Baron, I want him in my side even if they are scumbags. Feels to me that the crime lords and deserter war lords are more likeable than the kings or priests.

Yeah, Sigi is fucking cool and I found the Baron to be a character that I could sympathize with, even if he wasn't a great person.
Radovid and Emhyr on the other hand are both asshats.
The two things that separate him from Emhyr are that he's completely mad and he's filled with extreme hate for everyone. You can really see just how insane he is when you first meet him and he tries to explain to Geralt why he plays chess. He does have a sound mind for strategy though. Killing Henselt and uniting the two armies seemed brilliant to me.

One thing I'm very much liking is how functional and grounded the weapons and armour appear, whilst still looking cool. I'm not adverse to "fantasy" style weapons per se, but most rpg's just go overboard as the equipment gets more advanced.

The armor is great, it feels like a nice mix between fantasy and reality.
This doesn't have anything to do with armor or the swords in the game, but I really like how every time Geralt goes to sheathe his swords, he uses his hand to hit the sheath on his back so he can actually put them away comfortably. It's a small detail that I really like.

I'm planning to re-play the game. Played vanilla last time... can anyone recommend some decent mods?

So far I've picked
- Auto-loot (not sure how it works, yet)
- higher LOD for faces

No Water Droplets on Screen (Mod also has no mud on screen, nab that shit too)
Toxicity Clean Screen
No Dirty Lens
Enhanced Wind Effect Hairworks (If you can run Hairworks, makes a huge difference in quality for haircuts and physics wise)
Razors and Shears (For semi-immersive hair care)
Meditation UI (For the most immersive meditation possible, Slav Squat meditation also acceptable)

Gotta experiment with hairworks... Game runs without it at 60 at almost max settings with my GTX970 - let's see...
Is the School of the Roach mod worth it?
