I kind of hate when I get lucky on the first guesses like that since there's no chance to strategize. I wish they'd offer a few each day or the Jumble with a timer. Speaking of:

I always have that turned on. Imo it isn't actually hard, it keeps you from making dumb guesses.

The only difficulty with Hard Mode is that, when you are down to the last two tries, you cannot guess a random word to eliminate a slew of letters. Say on your fourth try you know the word is ?ITTY (a recent example), you cannot use your fifth chance on KNOWS to test for KITTY, NITTY, WITTY.

The "dumb guesses" are actually strategic, though, because they rule out enough letters to increase your chances of guessing right on the next. By forcing you to use the letters in place, it's forcing you to try and solve it on each turn, basically. I'll give it a try from now on and see if it's harder for me.

I made my little exporter of the game results into code for a Chrome/FF extension, by the way. It inserts a button in the toolbar of the NYT page since that's the URL I play on. Just click it after you finish and it'll copy the exact forum code to your clipboard (go to Toggle BB Code option in the KF toolbar and paste). That's all it does and nothing else, so it won't bloat anything in your browser. I haven't tested on FF, but should work the same.

I'm unsure what the asterisks after the scores mean, but can add that into the code it if it's important. Just figured I'd share since it's fun to see what letters people guess.
