I hope that somehow, some way, they manage to capture the sincere madness of the second attempt that Corona-Chan killed. There were some interesting things they did and the product was largely serviceable. Hopefully they can at least finish the season this time around.

A merger with the USFL could be in the best interest of both since the USFL has their teams in the eastern half of the USA, and the XFL largely has the western half since the relocation.

Third time.

The 2nd incarnation probably would have made it, if it didn't start its season the month Covid came to the US in 2020.
 
I can't wait to watch today's game I know it failed twice both in 2001 and 2020 but I'm hopeful things will be different this time if not then it might get brought back again 19 years later like it was the last time

I dont know if 2020 really failed, it seemed like they were filling seats and then covid killed it. Im pretty excited for seattle though with june jones doing air raids with josh gordon
 
The season finished last week and divisional playoffs are this weekend. My favorite game of the season was Defenders vs Guardians on week 7:
The only winless team versus the only undefeated team in a 73 point shootout with the winless team winning by a single point. This was the only win for the Orlando Guardians during the season and they beat the team most likely to win the championship in 2 weeks. The touchdown pass at 4:30 in the above video gets my vote for play of the year. Play of the year is being decided based on fan votes and comments on the XFL youtube channel.

My favorite non-NFL rule they use is the overtime rules in case there is a tie at the end of regulation:
Consists of alternating attempts from opponent’s 5-yard line.
Three attempts per team (two points per score) or until winner is decided.

It is a shootout where every play is to get in the end zone from the 5. There have been a couple games go to overtime and it is a really fun way to decide a winner.
 
So the Arlington Renegades won the 2023 XFL championship even though they had a losing 4-6 record during the regular season. Replay of the game is here on YouTube:

A lot of people don't like the design of the championship trophy, but I think it works because you can drink beer from it.


The big news is the XFL and USFL merged and there will be a single spring football league this year called the United Football League. They start playing games this weekend. I will start a new thread to discuss the UFL.
