Well, I just got the Seattle Dragons shirt I ordered the day before it was announced that the XFL was shutting down.

I won't ever get to wear it during a season...but I at least get to wear it.

A little piece of history is always nice to have.

It might not be history worth remembering, but still...

I have a wildcats sweatshirt from their last game. Too nice to give up.

Its a shame this version of the XFL ended the way it did.

I was ready to crap on it, but I actually got a kick out of it. It wasn't over the top and stupid like the original incarnation and was just a football league. It wasn't NFL level, but it was solidly fun for what it was, and I especially got a kick out of the idea of 3 pt conversions, lol. I never got used to the kickoffs, but that's a minor thing in the grand scheme.

But Rona took it from us. Its a shame.

I really hope they're able to come back in some capacity once this is all over. The NFL could use the competition and from the brief bit we got, it was clear they'd put more thought into it than either the AAF or XFL 1.0 ever did.

I recently moved to a new house, and have been unpacking all of my shit over the past couple of weeks. The other day, I opened up my box of hats, and found an XFL hat I bought in February, when I went to a game.

It made me sad. The game was a lot of fun. It's a shame that what did it in this time around was fucking COVID. I believe that going to that XFL game was the last time I went out and had fun ...

:optimistic:

Wow, at least he is trying to make it work.

I hope the Dragons stay as a team.

I checked up on XFL news today. The XFL was planning to try to return to the field in 2022, but that plan is now currently "on hold" as the XFL has begun to "explore opportunities for alignment" with the CFL. Anyone's guess what such a partnership would be; in the '90s the CFL did briefly experiment with a "south division" of American teams but it ended up being a failure, and CFL's different rules (three downs, larger fields, goal posts in the end zone!) might be tougher for American audiences (and players) to adjust to than the XFL's relatively minor rules changes, so I don't think it's smart to try anything that extreme, but that their web site has removed any pretense of having a planned 2022 schedule kind of hints in that direction. The CFL also plays in the summer rather than the spring.

I don't think it's a good sign for the XFL if their decision is dependent on the CFL. The XFL was a fucking blast imo and I would love to see that version return somehow but by involving the CFL, you're throwing away the best part of your league and that's the ruleset.

I mean, I guess most people prefer to watch pass heavy games because once you go three downs, you're effectively shutting out the traditional running game.

In a perfect world, I'd like to see the CFL get a tenth team in Halifax and just have the XFL return with 8 teams and move teams around accordingly if you have to. I'd prefer them to be in cities with no pro presence and MLS stadiums work extremely well for minor league football.

With as many college superstars that don't pan out in reality, the talent pool is there to put out a consistently good product.

Necroing, but I really hope that somehow the XFL can come back. If they can do the same thing they did last time, there's a chance it will do ok. I think people would like to see football and not be forced to watch NFL continue to be as trash as it was.

Now if only we could get a league that was like an IRL NFL Blitz...

I just checked their web site for news. No new articles since the CFL thing, but the header image now says "XFL to return in 2023." This contradicts them previously saying they'd be back in '22.

The site also links to the @xfl2022 Twitter account, which no longer exists - it's @xfl2023 now.

So they're not dead yet, I guess, but the number of circling buzzards continues to climb.
