There is a critical bug Nintendo did not fix for the Zelda Game & Watch. Selling Links Awakening in 2021 with this is not a good look. - Tales pre-internet

but why did you do it?
why did you do it 3 times?

I’d do it a lot more than three times. One time on a swordless attempt, something broke real bad when I stole the Bow from the shop.

Next thing I knew, all three Save Files were corrupt, couldn’t delete, and took me to Kanalet Castle, No Sword No Shield, and scariest of all, the Ghost of the Bay was frozen on my screen.

It sounds like a creepy pasta, but sadly this happened in 2003 and I have no proof.

Aren't Game and Watches little handheld LCD things, like those Tiger Electronic games? Nintendo brought them back? From how I remember them they were really simple games, how the fuck can they have glitches?
They stuck 2 NES roms, 1 GB rom, and remade the "MOLE" game with Link and stuck it all in a tiny Game&Watch machine.

Huh, so they're not real Game and Watches? Not sure why they would market them as such, I wouldn't have thought that zoomers even know what a Game and Watch is.

I remember I had this one when I was little, used to play it all the time because my parents were too bastard cheap to buy me a Game Boy. No I am not still mad, honest

Its probably just some other companies emulator hardware as well. Its basically free CONSOOOOMER money. Buy the same game for the 15th time losers.

At least Link's Awakening is fun. The other two Zelda games are too vague and confusing.

I figure the whole point is because if they released a Game Boy Classic Edition along the lines of the NES and SNES ones, customers would expect it to have like 30 games for $60. Game and Watch was always one game per handheld, so they can release ones with 2-3 games in them for $50 each.

I don't think it worked out too well, though. Nintendo touted the Mario Game and Watch as something super limited and it'll no longer be available after March 2021, though to this day you could go into any Walmart and just buy one from the big pile of unsold ones still rotting away at $50 each. I wanted to buy one for like $10 but I never actually saw them go on clearance

Imagine not just downloading an emulator and playing Zelda that way, and then complaining that a nostalgia grift isn't all that it's cracked up to be because consoomers buy by name and not on any sort of principle.

My father had that one with the cake factory. I had Donkey Kong II with Donkey Kong Jr. climbing the vines to get keys to unlock his father.

I think the new Game and Watches essentially have an "NES on a chip" (or maybe they're using GBA chips) as a processor and, because of economics of scale, it's probably actually cheaper to use widely-available colour LCD screens these days than it is to build LCD panels with fixed-screen graphics that can only be used for a single game.

Game Boy Micro:
1637454080069.png

  • smaller but thiccer
  • metallic body (faceplate is plastic but with that shiny metallic finish)
  • L&R are microswitched, D-pad and face buttons also feel perfect
  • headphone jack, front-firing speaker, analog volume slider
  • plays any GBA games, including flashcarts
  • $100 but nobody bought it because the DS also plays GBA games and that was a year old by then
  • now somewhat hard to find and fairly valuable
Game & Watch (2020's series):
1637454274526.png
  • thinner but wider
  • plastic body that no joke feels like a McDonald's toy
  • D-pad is kind of stiff but fine i guess, face buttons are rubber
  • no headphone jack, speaker is on the left side so your hand will block it if you hold it wrong, also volume is on-device controlled through a menu, with no dedciated volume or mute buttons whatsoever
  • plays only what it comes with, no connectivity whatsoever so no updates possible, comes with just Zelda 1 & 2, Link's Awakening, and G&W Vermin. Hacking it is also mostly worthless due to a miniscule amount of storage on-board and no way to add external apart from soldering in a replacement storage chip
  • $50
  • probably easy to find right now cause it's new and we're going through a fucking apocalypse scenario which nobody alive has ever lived through and it sux and you have to be either very bad with money or well off enough to say "why yes I do need a dedicated thing that only plays old zelda games, heres $50 lmao"
  • it also tells the time, because that's what the "watch" part of game and watch is, even though it's not wrist-mountable and it's not like time-telling devices are exactly a commodity
  • also that box that the G&W's in in the picture is literally just part of its shipping box, you can stand it up like a stand, but's just a cardboard foldout thing. A cardboard foldout stand for a machine with the build quality of a Happy Meal toy for $50 mmm yes take my money nintendo

I’ve went WAAAAAAY too far beyond the boundaries. If you just keep going right in the dungeon layouts, the game loads up diabolical dialogue. It’s like I’m unlocking a dormant game demon.
Why did you think doing this was a good idea outside of an emulator? I hope you didn't try the infamous ZZAZZ glitch on actual hardware. If you did, understandable. Exploding bulbasaurs are funny.
