I love theremins. Someone decided there needed to be a strange contraption that could rival only the slide whistle in being able to produce distinct chords for both horror movies and cartoon characters floating after the scent trails of a freshly baked pie on the windowsill, and it worked out perfectly.

Theremin invented another listening device called The Thing, hidden in a replica of the Great Seal of the United States carved in wood. In 1945, Soviet school children presented the concealed bug to the U.S. Ambassador as a "gesture of friendship" to the USSR's World War II ally. It hung in the ambassador’s residential office in Moscow and intercepted confidential conversations there during the first seven years of the Cold War, until it was accidentally discovered in 1952.[43][44][45]

I do not appreciate that.

Theremin Concerto “Eight Seasons” by Finnish composer Kelevi Aho, for those obsessives who makes lists out all classical pieces with seasonal themes.

I've been to a concert by Lydia Kavina, who is one of the relatives of Leon Theremin. During the preconcert demo she invited children to play on it and try how the hand distance and figurations affected the sound. It was fascinating to watch even for adults -- I never realized the instrument could go to very deep bass. She played this piece in the concert -- Martinu's Fantasia, one of the few non-film related Theramin music that has gain a foothold in the concert hall.
