I did hear that they also still use the IBM selectric typewriters still but I didn’t think that was true too.
Some very fringe circumstances still use them like dot matrix printers. For receipts that need a carbon copy it strikes the paper physically so it makes that imprint. Not that their aren't better ways but it still has that one sole use that keeps it around.

So I assume when you were in your early 20's you had watched all the movies that came out in the 10-20 years before you were born?

I'm a late millennial and I never watched Robocop, nightmare on Elm Street, etc. because I didn't care to watch it then and I certainly don't care now.
I mean, cards on the table, I haven't seen ALL of the Nightmare on Elm Street movies, but I at least know who Freddy Kreuger is.

There are some things you just pick up through cultural osmosis, right?

I Saw that south-park did an entire special satirizing the Panderverse but I haven't seen it. When it comes to south park being edgy, I don't think they really can be anymore. It's not out of being incompetent writers or topics to discuss it's just that the time it came out in had kid's always 100% innocent on the shows that were broadcasted. Suddenly you flip that around and thats what made it the most edgy thing ever. Not to say that their isn't still some good comedy but that time period is gone and nowadays its simply not as hard hitting.

I've seen it and frankly, it's shit.

There doesn't seem to be any purpose to the main plot other than "look, here's how the cast would look as black/Asian women" which the novelty wore off in like 5 mins (and this was an extended special, not a regular length episode). It didn't feel like a parody or satire, it's just SP doing exactly what Disney and Neflix keep doing now.

The subplot about Randy's quest to fix his oven door was more entertaining. Gotta love Randy, even the most mundane task becomes an adventure.

OT, but those IBM Selectrics were a fucking dream back in the day. The auto correction cartridge? God's greatest gift to typists back then.
Sorry, I'm an old fart. Carry on.

I don't remember if I've mentioned this before, but youngest cheeselet has long blond curls, nearly to the middle of his back.
I mentioned that he has hair just like Robert Plant, and he said "that's nice, mom. Who is Robert Plant?"

A year or two ago, some Patposter was texting Fat as "LIZARD KING", which is probably some D&D monster but it reminded me of a gamebook (and others from the same author) I used to read as a kid when staying with my grandmother at the countryside.

I actually have one that I’m trying to fix. The mechanism is stuck so I think I have to clean it but cross your fingers I may get it working again. I also don’t really know what I’m doing.

Good luck.
We got two in my high school typing class and there would be actual arguments about who got to use them. We had daily rosters of whose turn it was.

When people said "sympathise" instead of "empathise",

They really put a lot of emphasis on the distinction during healthcare basic training BITD.

They really stressed that "empathizing" with patients was desirable and good and "sympathizing" was crossing boundaries and to be avoided.

TBH, I still find the distinction unclear and mostly unhelpful.

It seems like their concept of empathy mostly involved acknowledging and mirroring patients' potential feelings back to them in a fake and disgenuous manner because the never-ending queue of patients behind them didn't allow for actual humane interactions and problem-solving to address issues.

Damn if someone had Lizard King as their username I would have pegged them as a Jim Morrison/The Doors fan.

That gamebook art is pretty sweet though. That’s one thing I miss is the artwork from old 80s and 90s tabletop gamebooks. Just felt like it had more personality then

I think that may have been the point but also thats a very shitty point to have made. There def would have been some better comedy in that special but, it clearly wasn't there. Randy went from a backup character to carrying the show in some episodes on his shoulders. It's wild to see where he has come from.

Been watching roller skating shorts on YT, and most of the comments are from old farts like me talking about their love of skating but they can't afford broken bones due to osteoporosis.
I used to spend all summer at our two skating rinks as a teenager until they closed in the early 90s. I would love to go skating again. But I never thought about my age being a problem.

Simpsons started sucking after season 10, around 2000. People born after it started sucking may now be old enough to drink and vote.

Like everything it has it's odd moments, the problem is the smart writers have mostly left for other things - Mr Burns got toned right down and is now just "Evil" not just he's Evil and from another era - one of the best Burns insults is "The Japanese? Those Sandal wearing Goldfish tenders!" you wouldn't get because OMG offensive but because they don't have the writing staff to do jokes like that anymore.

From my understanding Matt Groneing kinda turned out of all the production of The Simpsons around the 2nd Futurama return and again from Futurama towards the end of the 2nd coming tried to come back with that Fantasy one he tried that landed so badly it could have been a pancake, he's not just a "Producer" so sit's back on his arse doing what he has too and earning money an doing what makes him happy and I honestly can't blame him for that.
