Things you don't miss at all - The counter-nostalgia thread

I will cast a pretty wide time net here to cover the first 15 years of the century:

y2k era popular /mainstream music. From nu metal, mom-rock, bubblegum pop, and the bling era. Fucking garbage. My least favorite era of popular music is the one that is supposed to be 'mine'. At least it forced me to look elsewhere.

Every movie poster being blue and orange.

The popularity of Wes Anderson in my age demographic. Additionally and related, the general bombardment of faux-indie comedies and slice of life movies about 'quirky' people.

Hipsters.

A slew of some of the worst comedians who ever lived. Dane Cook, Jeff Foxworthy, Carlos Mencia. Even that absolute wet paper bag Dennis Miller briefly had his own fucking show somehow.

Evangelicals running the government., followed by West Wing fans running the government.

People citing Thomas Friedman's books like he was anything but the dumbest man alive.

Midwits thinking they were informed because they read The Kite Runner, Life of Pi, The Alchemist, or some other dumb shit.

Dr Phil at the height of his influence.

MTV zombies (when all zombies became fast and the movies featuring them just got dumber and dumber as the trend continued).

The popularity of the Saw and Hostel franchises taking over horror.

The popularity of reality tv.

Upworthy, Jezebel, etc. 'You'll NEVER guess what happened next.'

Heroes, Lost, and other tv slop that was hugely popular but now rightly forgotten about.

How much cable news ruled public discourse (it was worse even than todays schitzo internet).

related to above, the general public being as warmongery as politicians and the media. This especially sucked if you werent part of that.

Bronies being everywhere online

The dumbest bitch you know constantly posting shit like 'shoot for the moon if you miss you will still land amongst the stars' on facebook.

Kyle, who punches drywall.

Popped collars.

Texting on those 9 number keys on a flip phone.

If you worked in retail in the 2000s you know 'the customer is always right' mentality was huge and karens (though the term did not exist) knew it and made staff's lives miserable because of it.

Duck Face.

Shit like Maxim Magazine.

Blood on the Dance Floor

I distinctly remember multiple years where every woman thought Sarah Jessica Parker was hot and refused to believe every man (all of them) who compared her to a horse. Which she is.

And I know OP already mentioned this but above all I am so glad to be rid of the chirping Nextel phones. I had a roommate who had one of those it was the bane of my life. Probably the single thing I most glad to be rid of.

Yep. Way to miss the whole point of Romero, you cheesedicks!

Even more infuriating since it was ripped off from Rudy Ray Moore, who was a man too good for this Earth.

Blockbuster nostalgia is remarkably trite and idiotic, even taking the stone cold autism of modern American soy-drenched consoomerism into consideration. I never set foot in one BB in my life, between the ages of 12 and 16 I lived in a small town called Milford, NH (not to PL) and went to a mom and pop to rent movies and PS games. Reasonable borrow time, fees weren't too steep if you happened to be late a day or two.
Blockbuster from a mechanical standpoint is objectively inferior to what we have now, but it was more fun to go to the store and discover a diverse array of media than to use Netflix and get entirely algoslop or YouTube and have to already know what you're looking for because they don't so recommendations at all anymore if you're not logged in and have adblock (and if they did it'd all be ass).

Remember that horrible period like 15 years ago where they kept making movies about dumb teenagers in shitty dystopian settings where the main heroine is in a totally forced love triangle?
I don't miss those at all.
I'm convinced those only happened because Harry potter would have been too specific a setting to file the serial numbers off of unlike hunger games or Divergent.

Micro USB cables. They never lasted (for me the end would always bend and become fucking uselessly broken) and it only worked on like one side. USB-C genuinely felt like a step up in every regard.
And USB-C is genuinely capable of replacing HDMI and regular displayport in most scenarios, unifying almost everything in consumer electronics under one convenient standard. Sadly this really hasn't happened yet because the corps want HDMI for their DRM bullshit.

The Office, Parks and Recreation and all their copycats. A bunch of shows where the main characters are do gooders who just want to thrive in the era of hope and change (2006 to 2013-ish). The protagonists over time eventually had to be female and eventually beige-colored. The protagonists were always somewhat dorky and awkward but the antagonists were always dopey acting white guys who relented and gave up power willingly once they saw how heccin’ wholesome the protagonists are.

Over the top hatred for Michael Bay and Nickelback. For a while it became cool to hate these guys and I get it, their shit sucks. However there were some people who had or at least feigned rabid hatred of these faggots. Some people formed their entire identity on hating these people, a bunch of white guys who made boring shit to sell to a mass audience, back in the ancient days when creators tried to appeal to wide audiences rather than show contempt for them, like Kathleen Kennedy. Back when success was defined by actually making a profit rather than tank multibillion dollar intellectual properties.

Autists always being called weird or retarded depending how severe the autism was.

Body positive people were bullied for being fat and excluded from hanging around.

And a guy who cried was called a faggot and a pussy, toxic masculinity was everywere

Women were housekeepers and mothers instead of being strong and independent.

White people everywhere, disgusting.

You know what is stupid tho? Usb-c being able to short out your computer if you accidentally plug it into a usb-a port.

Forgot a big one, probably more controversial but I dont care:

The death of the first person shooter from the early 2000s-2016.

Seriously hiding behind cover, peering down sights, regenerating health etc poisoned an entire genre for a decade. I actually thought that I had grown out of the genre it was so bad...but I still had fun when I played older games so I suspected it couldnt just be that.

Many thanks to Dusk, Amid Evil, and Doom 2016 etc for righting that ship.
