Things you like in Character Design

I like elements of mystery in my character designs. Things like sunglasses, eyepatches and blindfolds to conceal eyes, odd charms that might not be obvious at all but help complete looks and unorthodox colors being used well (like a purple and red suit, or a white and green dress). Sometimes, things like unusual eye colors in otherwise grounded settings or maybe an odd ethnic mix can also help like dark skin with red hair.

I'm a sucker for any character with wings whose wings actually function as arms:

Because this is what you basically see in Nature. A person with two functioning arms and an extra set of wings is basically the equivalent of Goro from Mortal Kombat. Some kind of weird freak mutant who probably wouldn't have evolved in real life (and when you think about it, would you have the dexterity to operate both a set of arms and a set of wings? And a set of legs on top of that?) You couldn't just put your wings on "automatic" since you'd consciously need to move them around in order to fly and not hit things, Magic creatures, I suppose, wouldn't have to worry about this, but now we're getting into "A Wizard Did It" territory so who cares about Realism? Who cares about the practical problems a creatures with six limbs would have with navigation?

One possible solution to this problem is to have the arms transform into a pair of wings whenever the character flies. So now they only have 4 limbs to keep track of. Only drawback is, they can't grab anything while flying. Unless their legs turn into talons.... (Or, they can just turn all the way into a freakin bird or bat and be done with it.)
