💼 Careercow Thomas Astruc - Egotistical creator of a subpar French cartoon with an unhealthy grudge against a fictional character he created. Basically Andrew Dobson if he was actually successful

I’m working on an archive of this but this video goes over a lot of the stuff mentioned (not the insert shit but rather his up the ass nature.)

I've always wondered something about Miraculous Ladybug. If the show is supposedly about an equal partnership, why is it always Marinette saving Adrien? I know "muh girl power," but it's happened dozens of times! I wanna see Adrien save Marinette for once!

And that stupid shit "Oh, Marinette almost got akumatized, but she noticed at the last second and swatted away the butterfly!" No! You stop that! If it happened to Adrien (see: the episode Chat Blanc), it should happen to Marinette, too! If Adrien can be vulnerable sometimes, Marinette should be too, for the love of god!

The "secret half sister of Chloe" twist is some fanfic tier bullshit.
Never seen the show, but from experience with soaps that pull similar plot points you do some thing like that once you’ve completely run out of ideas. Todd’s long lost brother that’s also evil shows up because you’ve told every story you can think of and you’re on season 17, so all that’s left to develop the story is something absurd. Again, never saw ladybug but if they’re using plot twists like that already it shows a creative bankruptcy in the writers department.

fuck that show anyway, stan the original anime preview

edit: Honestly, I was about to say he's relatively tame comparing to American lolcow animators but...this?

The worst part is this guy is supposedly married and not to that woman.

honestly the post above mine shows that he has a weird thing about marinette because of the whole ~fictional daughter~ thing which explains the shows treatment of her (i'm surprised she even gets antagonized past the villain-of-the-week)

what's funny is the fandom used to like him back in 2016 or so but now it's turned into one of those shows where (as addressed in this thread) the fandom just kind of ignores him when not actively criticizing him. i think a lot of it stems from his shitty treatment of adrien compared to marinette. i think there's a few times marinette is saved by chat noir but it gets overshadowed by ladybug appearing right after.

PS zoé is dumb and chloé deserves better

To be fair, it's unclear how much creative control he actually has because the show's drop in quality has more to do with the executives and toy sellers. Nobody originally wanted it to be an 8 season soap opera targeted at 5-year-olds where the characters can't move past the status quo, but there's so much you can do with the concept. Doesn't excuse his behavior on twitter, but he already had cancel fandom on tumblr in 2016 who found the show racist and sexist etc. Shit like this is the main reason why I'm not interested in cancelling him. Yes, maybe the show isn't that deeply sophisticated but calling people racist because they don't care about what the creator says on twitter is effing retarded. Especially, since the majority of the fan base aren't American and don't have the same views on race and gender perpetuated by modern American media.
But back Astruc. Yeah, he's a hypocrite, you can ask fans of "Felix". The show had a fan base way before it even started airing but back then Chat Noir was a slightly different character before they changed him to Adrien for reasons "He was an anime cliche and we wanted a better role model for boys". Look, from the production standpoint I get it, but he had no reason to continuously act antagonistic towards the fans of the original preview and Felix, considering these people who were hyping up the show in the first place. It only got worse when he actually introduced Felix into the show as Adrien's cousin as ofc he made him act like a huge asshole just so Adrien can look better. That was definitely him being spiteful, you can't go further than having grudge against a fictional character you yourself created. He definitely has some issues. The good news is the upcoming movie will not be directed by him and is looking to be a response to the fans of the original version, so I wonder how the characters will be handled without his involvement.

At any rate, I'm looking forward to the movie to see if Astruc is behind characters consistently getting treated worse than they deserve (Adrien compared to Marinette, Chloe) or arbitrarily giving everyone a miraculous.

It's this modern chivalry rhetoric popularized by mainstream feminism teaching boys they have to treat women like queens with nothing asked in return, and they don't realize how fucking medieval that sounds. Literally all "Felix" did is refuse to go to the movies with the girl he had no interest in, which apparently makes him abusive. But okay, let's say a tsundere character was hard to market and he wanted a more likable character for the male lead, so the why the fuck he's getting pissy at people (who are mostly girls) wanting more screen time for Adrien?

Don't forget how often Adrien/Cat Noir flirts with Ladybug despite her explicitly saying she's not interested in him to the point where one episode had him believe an evil doppelganger over the real deal because she returned his feelings. Such a gentleman, don't you think?

yeah, and Marinette's stalking antiques would put Helga Pataki to shame. Even Adrien himself is guilty, considering his devotion to Ladybug to the point he doesn't care she's in love with someone else is supposed to be "charming". The "love square" thing is honestly more disturbing at this point, even people I know who used to love adrienette are sick of it.

Yet Thomas Astruc himself said that opposites attracting is a toxic fantasy even though that's what people liked about Adrienette initially.

Hypocritical much?

Chloe deserves better smh
You'd think that a kid's show would want to teach kids to "be kind and accept everyone, because you don't know what they might be going/went through" or "sometimes people need understanding friends".

What Thomas doesn't seem to acknowledge is that typically, children don't see or question past what they are shown on the TV show, while grown ups are able to internalize and understand the implications

In this case, does it mean Chloe will grow up and stay a bitch forever, just because she was a tuff meanie girl in middle school? Is she beyond redemption because her poor judgement is tied to sub-tier teenage drama for the sake of plot?

Virgin Astruc: *gets triggered over harmless ships, is canceled by his own fanbase*
Chad Wakfu director: *RTs nsfw gay and incest art because he's cool with fans interpreting his characters however they want, no one dares to cancel him*

edit: Only bringing this up because he's well aware of Ladybug porn, so I dunno why harmless shipping art gets him so worked up. Not like he gives a shit about these characters anyway
