There's simply no chance Phil is somehow more happy then he was in the early 2010s when he was making 200k a year with a gf waaaaaay out of his league with a brand new house and everything. That was the peak of his life. He may pignosis himself into believing it's now but it clearly isn't.

True.

And he seems at least superficially aware of having peaked, since otherwise why insist that he has neeeevrr been happier, and bring it up periodically?

It’ll be interesting to see how he copes with it over the years. He’s already at an age where most successful men are starting a family.

How will he cope with turning 50, and still sitting in the snortfort with his catson and fat mo-waif?

I’d expect him to get even more bitter and full of rage against everyone who has wronged him, we’re already seeing this in the occasional copestreams about “evil YouTube trends value if drama”, and how it was “back in the day” before he was treated like dirt.

Interesting insight into his oppositional defiant disorder btw. Or that’s likely what he would have been diagnosed with, if he had been a kid today.

Fun fact: Phil's fellow piglike fat lolcow Fatrick S Hamlinson got diagnosed with Oppositional Defiant Disorder as a kid. I wish Phil would start a lolsuit against his trollz like how Fatrick did because the results would be very similar, though it probably won't happen seeing as Fatrick's lolsuit was bankrolled by the weird pedos of the SFWA and they've got much deeper pockets than Phil's dents.

That's what people who are happier now than ever before do. They bring it up all the time, even when it was never mentioned or even if the persons mood was brought up. The same way you know a business is successful despite the owner begging for donations and money every 10 minutes because that's what a successful business does, reminds everybody they need any and all support they can get because their income is low and they need the money.

I know in the burgeoning thread for Nick Rekieta somebody noted that ODD seems to be the thread that links many, if not most, lolcows.

In any case, for those who didn't see it, Phil spelled his oppositional defiant nature out pretty explicitly during his chimpout at OneMinuteMan yesterday (6:45 if the timestamp doesn't work):

I'm guessing that Phil has Narcissistic Personality Disorder, because he always demands that everybody treat him as number 1, and only talk about him.

It's not enough to not want to do the romance. Phil just has to get everybody to agree that he's mature because he has a wife. He keeps trying to claim that he respects everybody's opinion, then turns around and tries to get everybody to act "mature".

Same goes for serious mature adults - I don't think I've ever heard someone other than DSP refer to himself/herself as those things.

Got a question for you all, do you think Phil really is antisocial and autistic enough he's fine with having no friends or is that just cope? The "muh wife is my best friend!" shit is clearly a lie but does is Phil really unbothered by being friendless?

I think that his claim about how happy he is currently is a lie that he feeds himself, but I think he sees friends as purely transactional, and he hates giving anything back to someone, which is required for an acquaintance to turn into a friend. He's happy sitting in his hugbox where any ridicule or criticism is promptly banned, it's much harder to ghost someone IRL that knows where you live, and has your phone number... we all know how well DSP responds to difficulty.

EDIT: He moved across the country from his only known friend (to the vortex), John Rambo, same as his parents, he sees interacting with other people, even on the internet, as work that he should be paid for.

I have heard of Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) before but I thought it was only something that can be diagnosed in kids, apparently not. Since it has been getting brought up in the threads after Phil's mask off "the more people tell me to do something the more I feel compelled to do the opposite" moment, here is an excerpt of the diagnostic criteria for ODD:

Numbers 1 through 4 could describe any KF user on a bad day... Number 5 is a sticking point for me, as I have my own Mad At Politicians stance, where I know the bible says that God puts rulers in charge, but, I can not accept Joseph Robinette Biden as my leader... Number 6 is what KF is for, IMO... Number 7 and 8 could be any person on earth.

As with many mental health disorders, a description of the symptoms is often vague enough to apply to just about anyone. It's partly the reason there are so many self-diagnosed people on social media.

"I was happy a minute ago, and now I'm sad. I must be bipolar."

The key with any disorder is whether or not it interferes with your ability to lead a normal life. Someone can be quick tempered or hold grudges, but if he can have normal relationships and hold a job, it wouldn't necessarily qualify as a disorder or disordered thinking.

If your symptoms stop you from being able to have a romantic relationship, friendships, or cost you your job, then you might might have disordered thinking.

You are approaching psychiatry like you are reading tea leaves, but what separates a personality trait from a disorder is how a person lets it affect their daily life. And I have never heard anyone describe Phil as a functional adult.

I have no idea if Phil has ODD, but I am positive he would benefit from intensive therapy and medication.

It's definitely 100% a cope. Ideally, he wants friends he's doing better than, or is more successful than, who will listen to his complaining and praise him. So technically he is looking for IRL fans he can take advantage of (drive him around, lift heavy), who will also provide his narcissistic supply. That's what friends are for Phil.

Over in the Khet thread, the "is Phil/Khet autistic" conversation came up. Was going to post there, but realized it was really more about Phil because Khet is still such a question mark we can't really say one way or another. I think it's interesting to discuss, so figured I'd post it here instead because it ended up being so Phil-centric:

Both Khet and Phil definitely have some of the broader strokes for autism, but...the problem is, some of the checkboxes are such wide categories that it's easy to apply. It's why it became so popular as an identity on tumblr and similar online spaces.

Like, yeah, Phil and Khet both have trouble making friends, which could be a sign of autism. But it could also just as easily be the fact that they're boring, selfish slobs. I mean, we've seen Phil in the past interacting with people who were his friends and despite what he says now, he genuinely seemed to enjoy those connections. I think Phil wants friends, but he's also incredibly selfish and wants one-sided friendships and doesn't want to put effort into making friends and just expects them to flock to him. The closest he really came to socializing was in guild chat for Champions. Khet has previously been in relationships, but we don't know a whole lot about whether she had friends that she just ditched for an easy ride with DSP. I'd be leaning towards no on that particular one.

DSP and I think to a lesser extent from what we've seen, Khet are both blunt/rude, but...I think it's pretty intentional on their part and not something they don't mean to do. Like, usually with autism, it's accidentally being rude because you can't read a social situation. Like, say someone had a co-worker who died and they were sad about it, someone with autism might say "but you were just work friends, is it that sad" or "you only knew them for a month or two, what's the big deal." Not realizing how bad that comes off. Phil telling someone he'll send them a spoon to eat shit out of his ass or saying his viewers are immature morons is very much intentional. Now, there are moments where he says something tone deaf, like comparing...whoever died to losing his save file, but I think even that is sorta intentional and is just Phil's way of being a narcissist and drawing attention back to himself, because he loves being the victim. Speaking of, Phil has a general understanding of emotions in the sense that he pretty consistently tries to manipulate people into feeling bad for him.

Even Phil's schedule, as much as we joke about it, isn't actually that set in stone. In the past, he'd happily take days off whenever he wanted, and he's okay making on the fly changes if it means less gameplay. I think in a lot of cases his "autism" is just him making lame excuses "Oh, we have 2 hours left and you want me to play this other game? Uhh, I can't, because of the schedule, but let's do an impromptu Q&A" It's just him hating video games and looking for any excuse not to play them, while also seeming like a mature adult. Buuut, then there's also stuff like him scheduling food nights. Again, it's one of the problems with the categories being so broad where it's hard to tell what's legitimate and what's just a weird quirk/BS excuse.

I think the reason people are resistant to really put an official label on Phil is they don't want to play into the "nuthing I could do" argument he loves to throw out. Obviously, it wouldn't excuse away everything, but generally Phil is a cow because he had tons of opportunities and just continually made the wrong choices. That still by and large would hold true even if he was autisitic, but it could also come off like he's getting a pass on certain things because, well...there's nothing he could do if it was a condition he was born with. All that being said, it's technically not impossible and certainly fun to speculate/joke about, but I wouldn't want to ever officially label Phil without more solid confirmation. Some people are just retarded, without actually being "retarded."

It 100% cope, but I think Phil really is ok not having friends. Or at least he thinks ok with it. Since this isnt a new feeling for him. Back in his SF days when he was on the forums talking about traveling for tournaments he always advertised that he was looking for rides and would offer spots on his hotel room. He would buy giant rooms expecting it to draw people in. But everyone ignored him sine he was a POS and hed then complain later. So other than Rambo, Howard and Panda in the beginning he never really had that many friends. Even when he talks about his HS days he said he only had a few friends. So he must have never had a lot of people to connect with, so when those numbers got smaller and then became 0 stream chat became his friends. And he doesnt even have to do anything for them, just play games and babysit them and he gets a few dollars.

My take is Phill is an edge case. He shows symptoms, but was able to get through bankruptcy, the SIde Scrollers interview, and a visit from a police officer without turning into a spastic chimpanzee. Pat Tomlinson, as we know, can't do the same. Phil shows it, Pat is consumed by it.

Checking off 95% of the common symptoms of autism is not "broader strokes". I would bet 1000 USD if Phil was to go to a psychiatrist and get checked out he would be diagnosed as on the spectrum.

Yeah, a question worth asking is whether those symptoms apply to someone who becomes very timid whenever he interacts with someone face to face. Phil might be belligerent whenever he's doing a steam, but he wilts when it comes to real life confrontations.

That's part of it, yeah. I'm not going to insult someone for "wilting" in front of a cop or a judge, but I get the impression Phil goes further than that.
