I just had a really terrifying thought
These systems will be an interest of foreign governments. China, Russia, etc, Like these systems, are basically personal information collectors. even if the biggest commercially available one is owned by mindgeek they still charge up the ass for it. and this does leave room for competitors hoping for a cheaper option.
let's say out of the blue there is this random tech company (probably Tencent or some other tech company owned by the Chinese government) that releases the cheapest and most accessible age verification software ever. porn websites implement this first, but then there are stats that say children are watching porn less, then politicians in some western countries think of mandating this tech for all platforms. Twitter, Reddit, and Youtube "To keep the kids safe" or "to stop hate speech and harassment" or something like that, at first nothing happens, people complain, and people start to use the internet less, but people who stay and have no other options and come back and submit. now the status quo is back, this is the time to strike, the Chinese government lies and starts to collect user data (passports, driver's licenses, phone numbers. you name it they probably would have collected it) and then they get a hold of something really valuable too let's say if this is the states it's the president's personal information, as Twitter or Facebook something like that forces itself to use an AVS system and thus china has all they need too, basically put the USA in hostage or something far worse. I have zero ideas what happens next but it doesn't look good in this hypothetical situation.
