Thread of epic video game box art.

Friggin' loved this game as a kid. Just some dude, running around, punching bullets out of mid-air and smashing robot-mutant faces while getting assistance from other floating robots all the while. Good times. And those sunglasses are timeless.

So much time spent on this game. Hilarious too that the cover shows Bimmy (sic) and Jimmy fighting off a gang to save Marion, when in fact she dies before level 1. Ahhhh, false advertising.

This really isn't much false advertising. You play in some sort of extreme international dodgeball circuit for your chosen nation, "you" being some kind of hydrocephalic mutant (but it's cool, all of you are). And by "extreme" I mean once you throw the ball so hard at your opponents that you out and out murder them. The final boss is communist Russia, and if you do well enough, you fight against your evil shadow demon-clones. Godbear, I love this game.... right down to the herp-a-derp box art.

This box cover was so fucking metal it convinced my cousin to spend his allowance money on it. To bad the game was such a butchered port it turned me off to console sims.

Game isn't terrible, but when I was a kid dungeon crawlers were not a lot of fun. Too bad I thought the cover was awesome and rented it anyways.

One of the times the cover art did not lie to me. The art and the game are fucking amazing, Crystalis is a true hidden gem of the NES library.

Such hauntingly beautiful artwork, it was mostly the same for the PAL release. Sadly you guys in the US got screwed again.

Well, at least we got some better box art with Lament of Innocence.

Oh, and on the subject of Splatterhouse:

This is quite possibly the most metal thing ever.

There's a very simple elegance with the North American Left 4 Dead box art. It's got everything you need to know. Rotting corpses and the number 4.

Few covers sum up the game they belong to as well as the Asian Demon's Souls. It really captures the bleak atmosphere of the game.

I've been enamoured with the art for Twilight Princess since I first got it all those years ago. Brilliantly classy!

Possibly my all time favorite, the PAL version of Resident Evil 4, Wii edition. A masterclass in minimalist design.

Another classic! Caused a huge stir when it came out due to its racy nature, which in itself highlighted just how little people who moan about games actually know about the product. They were so busy being shocked at a bit of sideboob, that they didn't know about the blood and decapitations featured in the game.

Some of our British members may recognise the bloke, He'd later go on to become "Wolf" in the UK version of Gladiators that aired in the early 90's. And the girl? she was a glamour model called Maria Whittaker, I wouldn't google her if you're at work....

I can sperg with the best when it comes to 90's vidya, but this one completely bypassed me. What does it play like?

Um, that's a toughy...platformer with RPG elements? It's a side scroller, and you do quite a bit of jumping when you gain legs. Each time period has a story with characters in it, but most of the levels are just your standard "left to right" area with different prehistoric critters in them. At the end of each time period you'll face a boss creature, once you beat it you go on to the next chapter. You get stronger by biting things to death and consuming the tasty meat they leave behind. This meat gives you points that you can use to evolve different body parts. Like this:

Biting things to death can feel a bit repetitive, but the variety of things you can bite to death is impresive. The sprites have a lot of life to them, and it's just fun designing your creature and seeing how the body parts affect your abilities.
EDIT: Oh god, now I really want to play this game again! Arrgh!
