I think it would be best to disable the thread updates alerts in chat. They'll clog up the chat window (especially if a thread starts getting active) and mess with the flow of the chat.
Also, it will help cut back on the "funposting" folks seem to take issue with. I know at least in my case, I'll ignore most threads until I see them getting active in chat.
I can see this as a better option than coming off as authoritarian and whatever by banning or thread banning or warning points to folks bandwagoning some of the more cringey threads.

Or have the thread updates in another chat tab?

No I'm not going to the faggots tab fuck yOu both!!!!

Yeah, but moderation sees your funposting earlier if any mod happens to hang out in the chat and stamp out the funposting threads in under 5 seconds. But you knew that already and just want the mods to fly blind, you sly dog :ween:.

mess with the flow of the chat.
How dare thread updates discrupt important chat topics like genital talk, schoolgirl gossip power hour or discussing plans to kidnap, rape and murder Chris and Barb ?

Yeah I agree and approve. I was saying this in the Unpopular opinions thread kind of that there should be an option to turn that off.

"I always felt it was weird to see "so and so replied to this thread" in main chat and kinda don't feel like it's needed at this point or at least there should be something there to turn it off. I'm liking the other two chat tabs better for that reason."

No

What I am saying is that I would not see the threads and be less tempted much like others.

I would personally be fine with the option to turn them off, but as far as moderating goes, it allows moderators in chat to quickly intervene when we see obvious shitposting threads made, or can quickly take a look into threads that we lack interest to go to otherwise. Which also works from a user perspective. I see often people talking about fresh new lolcows in chat whenever someone makes a new thread, and it allows people to see new cows they'd otherwise just ignore.

I like the ideas of being able to toggle them or have them in their own chat tab [Thread Updates] would work well.

An option to turn it off would be good. Personally I'd keep it on though since its a nice tipoff to new content and for threads that have activity.

just have a setting for it, i like having them there so i can see what is the current popular thread.
incidentally its the reason i noticed this thread.
