He keeps on trying to needle me and the other Australians on this site as we've been the tip of the spear in the CCP autistic 'wolf warrior diplomacy', I don't think he and his masters even has a viable alternative to ANZUS and the 'squad' alliance that Australia has with the U.S and other India-Pacific allies.

Where's the percentage in that? We've seen how triggered the CCP gets over any criticism over their human rights abuses.

In terms of allies, China is in a tricky spot. They have Russia, but Russia is also buisy. North Korea can't be counted on in the long run. Iran is a regional power. The rest of the world surrounds them navally. He seems to be trying to exert soft power on the site and failing hard

I think that's more a symptom of centralized 'Communist' government than something specific to Chinese culture. The people higher up the chain necessarily must be less at fault to maintain public confidence in leadership, so the collateral for failure is passed down or 'delegated' to groups. There's also the risk of being scapegoated for political reasons - it affects business as well because even technically private corporations are kept close to the government.

The same has been true of Hong Kong for decades even when it was given a broad reign by the mainland. The objective is to maintain the status-quo, so there is no class of politicians or visionaries, only bureaucrats and civil servants who operate reactively.

They've tried bluster and bullying forgetting that Australia had other options for its export markets. Anytime anyone tells that that China will accept a world with America needs to look at their behaviour in the Pacific and South East Asia. They totally want supplication, not friendship.
Then there's the Belt and Road loan shit they try to play in Africa, hiring Chinese firms to build substandard infrastructure.

What this boils down to is that human life is cheap in China. You live and get ahead by lying about a problem until you can pass the buck to someone else. Problems, such as a broken, overflowing toilet (actual example from the book) are only a problem if you believe they are and cause trouble for the higher-ups.

This is not just recent. There is an old story that says a sufficiently good copy is just as good as the original. Which is technically true, but it deliberately ignores the subjectivity of the "sufficiently good" part.
