Thunderf00t / Phil Mason - Single manbaby, angry atheist/anti-feminist Youtuber, attention whore

This shit right here is basically why I stopped. Like no fucking shit Phil, filling a bullet full of people and catapulting it through a vacuum is dangerous. So are fuckin' cars. It's a useful technology. Why can't he use his goddamn brain to solve issues by, I dunno, suggesting good uses for the thing, like unmanned cargo transport or something.
To be fair, his point on the Hyperloop is that he thinks it's explosive-decompression dangerous, versus cars which are, well, only car crash dangerous.

But he does harp on shit pretty exceptionally.

You know the funny thing about the hyperloop is that it would take minutes for even a (relatively) large hole say, the size of a quarter, to drain the air from one of those capsules. They're huge and even with a near perfect vacuum outside, you'd have a deceptively long time to seek help. The passenger cars decompressing aren't even much of an issue.

Heck, I'm quite sure that even if the hyperloop 'track' is compromised, the fact that expanding oxygen is limited in it's density (as it also has to slowly fill the entire volume of the vacuum chamber just to reach atmospheric pressure) will first result in heating of a capsule, not total destruction. Moving objects traveling at high speed is bad but the bigger question is, if there's a leak bad enough for thy hyperloop to slam into a wall of air at atmospheric pressure, why the fuck didn't they stop the cars.

Not only does Thunderf00t sling insults and criticisms with no solution, he doesn't even get his science right. Maybe it's because he has to use a telescope to examine it from his ivory tower.

He's just released an update video saying he's splitting the channel, science videos on the main channel and politics/bts on the second. Personally, I think he'd be better off splitting the behind the scenes stuff as it's own channel since he made is sound like they are mostly just unfinished science videos and expanded science experiments.

The Voice of Thunder, for those who don't know, was God in the Bible, which makes it a fun name for a godless channel

Oof. How utterly Euphoric in the Year of Our Lord... checks calendar ...2019.

It's no coincidence that every single year of the 40 or so years that I've been alive has been one of the hottest top 20 on record.
? Yeah... shit doesn't work like that. ?

Many of his videos are literally the same. I'm pretty sure he uses clips or even entire segments from past videos to pad the length in new ones. This is most notable with the hyperloop and solar roadways videos.

You would think that after all these years he'd have learned editing. I find it hard to criticise him too harshly for his padding and repetitiveness considering that he actually still gets views, didn't fly too close to the sun with the antisjw stuff and still has successful academic job in a real life. But damn, his videos are as meandering and difficult to sit through as they've ever been.

I think even he is self aware at this point that the stuff he is debunking isn't groundbreaking. I think many people without his background who just have some common sense who have done some light reading could look at solar roadways and the numerous water out of nothing crowdfunded projects and know that they're scams. His self-awareness seems to have culminated in his videos about crowdfunding him to get a golden hammer. At this stage I'm surprised he doesn't just hire some people to create his videos and write him a script to read. It's not as if there is any shortage of crowdfunding scams proliferating in the internet.

Of course, the science schtick is boring to him I think, especially compared to the stuff he studies at his job. He needs an enemy to rally against - nobody gives a shit about creationists and a lot of the anti-SJW people have become parodies of themselves at this point.

He might be spot on regarding hyperloop, but I need someone saner to make the case. He's insufferable. I'm curious to see if he addresses the Sargon situation, though. Sargon is weak right now.

The Hyperloop won't ever kill this many people because the Hyperloop will never be built.

The largest vacuum chamber ever built to this date is orders of magnitude smaller than a functioning Hyperloop that actually delivers on Musk's promises would need to be for the project to exist. All for something that is objectively more dangerous, more expensive, and less functional than asphalt roads have ever been.

Elon Musk is an egotistical dipshit who thinks his PayPal money is enough to surmount the laws of physics, and engineering challenges that the best and brightest have repeatedly found to be inconcievably far away from us technologically when they aren't just flat-out bad ideas and wastes of time.

Sure, Thunderf00t is autistic snd repetitive; but he's been consistently right on Musk, Solar Roadways, powdered alcohol, countless dipshits who make worthless garbage out of dehumidifiers, and a bunch of other stuff thaf deserved both barrels.

You don't need someone saner to make the case. All you need to know is that the largest vacuum chamber ever made isn't even a hundreth the size of what a Hyperloop would need to be, and that's far from the only major engineering challenge.

Setting aside how practical it is for a moment the other major problem I see is that I don't think it can effectively compete with slower methods of transport. The capsules carry way too few passengers to compete with railroads and airliners, so I think even if they did happen to complete one I'd expect it to have the same faith as supersonic jets like the Concorde. A good piece of tech that lasted a few decades, but would eventually have to be retired as it carries way to few passengers to compete with slower and cheaper aircraft, and ultimately prove impractical. Now you could argue that maybe you could use it for cargo, but speed isn't and never has been important for that industry, as a result I doubt that any shipping company would find any use of it.

If Elon stopped worrying about cunts and did some actual science, he'd realise his Hyperloop is a stupid impossibility.

The hyperloop and his hyperhighway are fucking laughable and so is anyone who thinks they're viable.

Yeah new infrastructure and transportation technologies are totally impossible. Let the Chinese do it instead. Start learning mandarin.

I think a more appropriate term is cost ineffective. Even if you were to mitigate all safety issues; the main point of the Hyperloop is you're in a vacuum which means 0 drag/resistance. You break that vacuum in any way and you'll have downtime to find where the break is, then repair time. Given how friendly California is too, there's absolutely no vandals or assholes who will go out of their way to break shit. There's also the tetonic movements, there hasn't been anything major in a while, but a bad shake can require more structural inspections.

There's also the fact that California's been flirting with the idea of high-speed rail from LA to somewhere since the mid 90's. I remember there being a plan to get a set of high-speed track run from LA to LV, which would alleviate a lot of the weekend traffic on the I-15. In current day the state's had non-stop negotiations and shit to try and make some sort of high-speed rail between LA and SF; but the budget keeps ballooning and other shit.

Point being, even is Elon's science and ideas were sound; the state of California would try to bend him over and fuck him at every opportunity.

I've heard about California's demonic building permit regime. Some guy had to pay $50k in fees just to get his container hovel approved. Then Elon should move to a better state.

He should try Illinois. They'll give him whatever the fuck he wants, residents be damned.

I don't need to, I already speak 2x gook.

Besides, his science wasn't "sound". There's so many reasons why it'd never work. Logistically, financially, structurally, environmentally.
The hyperhighway is stupid - we already know that tunnel building is hard and expensive. Build a tunnel, fine, it's not easy and nor is it cheap and it's not without a bunch of risks, but we can do it.
Building a tunnel under everything, so everyone can just slide into the hypertunnel from their house? :story:
Give me a fucking break. Building tunnels to everywhere? This isn't Fantastic Mr Fox. It isn't some fantasy land.
Besides, even Elon had to recant his super magic hyper travelling device and replace it with basically rollerskates.
I don't know if you've ever put super high lifts and suspension on a 4x4 truck of any kind and then autistically bushbashed in it, but it'd be like that.
The damage to the frame of the car would be exactly like that. You'd end up with a twisted chassis.

Then his hyperloop. His hyperloop is dumb as fuck. Blighting the landscape with those big chunky tunnels? The metal fatigue that would certainly happen with the vacuum needed to sustain it? :story: The heat? The sound of the vacuum pumps?
We already have something that will work just fine - maglev and high speed. Both are tried and tested.
Elon wants to reinvent the wheel, into a new fancy hyper wheel, which will end up being rolled back to being just the wheel when he gets to the prototype stage, just like everything else he does.

He's basically the monorail guy with a terrible ego, a lot of money and a goth girlfriend.

He could contribute to society in a meaningful way, but instead he lets his ego control everything and he thinks everyone will accept his "genius". He's no genius. He could be doing something awesome with nuclear energy, yet there he is, fucking around with Teslas, which are demonstrably subpar cars.
He could be making cars that are affordable and environmentally sound. He could be doing a lot of shit that he's not.

China aren't inventing anything spectacular. They are poaching western engineers to design things for them.
I don't even think China would be stupid enough to build a hyperloop. And China is pretty stupid.

Phil's new video. I haven't watched it yet, but I'm sure it will be his usual.

"Oh shit, we have a problem!"

"Here, I have a stupid idea that won't work!"

"...Your idea is stupid, no thanks."

"Well, fuck your problem them, you clearly don't want a solution!"

...

Yeah, no. This is the "something, anything" mental failing that legislators get into after a big disaster or tradgey. They're so desperate to do something that they latch onto anything that someone says will help... And usually it won't, and quite often it's so poorly thought out that it actually is counter-productive, illegal, immoral, or otherwise fundamentally flawed... but they've got to be seen to be doing something! And if you dare point out that their something is a stupid idea and maybe even problematic in other ways? You're evil, you want people to die in mass shootings/earthquakes/hurricanes/kaiju attacks/whatever.

Newest video:

Haven't watched it in its entirety yet but I'm guessing it's another one of his "not like the other girls" type of videos as if he didn't pioneer low effort feminist ownage khantent himself. Very peculiar form of troll shielding indeed.
