NOOO RAMIREZ

I always looked forward to reading his lines, and I couldn't help but like the guy because he reminded me of Eddie Guerrero in this picture:

(yes, this was an actual bootleg)

So, Jace completely made up some shit about eye-patches just so his Mary Sue could be a bit more like Solid Snake; he made his Arabic terrorists speak Farsi; he mentions "parachuting" out of nowhere; he completely misuses the phrase "double tap"; he manufactures Ramirez's "Juggernaut armour" into being an Iron Man suit complete with bulletproof full-face visor, AND he still thinks hashish is the same as opium.
On the plus side though, Jace used the "but none of that mattered now" cliche again!! Yaaayyy!
They did a Mythbusters about pirates using eyepatches for night vision, so it's not completely out of left field. But like usual, he screwed up the details. It wasn't about being blinded by "flashes" (presumably cannons?), but for taking the fight from daylight to belowdecks.

Chapter 17 summary:

- Ramirez dies while fighting the Mooselim horde

Teh Endz

Chapter 17: Condition Zero
(As seen in the PDF, if you're curious)

Jace, you're putting Counter-Strike in mah Call of Duty, and I don't like that one bit.

Since then, they'd been skulking around in the plantation, hoping to find some way out of the kill box that surrounded them.

Now that's more like Call of Duty. Stryker and Ramirez can't escape the level they're in, because they'd be told to return to the combat or be shot in 10 seconds by God almighty.

Stryker's was a custom-made piece, the kind of thing you couldn't find in a catalog;

You just know that that statement is usually followed by paragraphs and paragraphs of stuff copy-pasted from a catalog.

Anyway, I think this chapter was actually much better than the previous ones. Actual drama. Actual stealth. Actual plot elements. What improvements will we see in the next chapters? Spell check?

I think Jace must have played Spec Ops: The Line and completely missed the point. With how he's killing his comrades off, it reads like a really bad rip off of that game's plot.
Yes, he has played it and yes, he completely missed the point.

Wow, yeah that's kind of exactly what I expected. I really need to do my research on p-to-the-parkourdude era, pre-hater hitlist Jace.
He didn't even finish it though. He got to the first time you killed Americans and went apeshit and quit. So like barely 4 chapters in. I would have loved to see his reaction to some good old White Phosphorus.

I haven't played that game... What happens?

You go in thinking you're a cool badass American soldier out to shoot some terrorists in Dubai, but the more you play the game the more you realize you're really an insane murderer with hero delusions and mental illness who could've stopped this nonsense at any time but only pushed on because he was following all the cliches of the military dude bro shooter. It's great and a huge sucker punch to anyone who wants to feel like a hero and kill some terrorists.
