ASMR in general is weird, so I wouldn't doubt it. It's more of an open secret that it's a sexual thing, and that always attracts people with ulterior motives.

Just looking at the women involved in it, many of them are doing the job of a phone sex hotline without the erotic words. And you'll see they're often using their youtube channels to boost a porn site or an onlyfans. I would imagine the men involved are also quite aware that their audience uses it as JO material and that attracts sex perverts.

It's not a sexual thing in its base form. I have been watching ASMR for years. It's not once been arousing in the least. Opposite if anything. It's supposed to be relaxing or comforting, not arousing. If arousal happened, it was in the same way that a guy might get a boner during a physical therapy massage (no rub n tug involved).

However yes a lot of people have turned into a sex thing, putting their tits out and plugging OF and doing porn requests. It's a shame really.

I don't know of any allegations of a creepy sex fiend sort against Ephemeral Rift, but he's definitely kind of a douchebag. He had a lot of nasty, sexist shit to say about female creators way back in the day, like, 2013-ish; I remember him specifically calling Heather Feather a whore/slut/something of that nature and then saying it was a joke, but in context it really didn't seem that way. It struck me as very weird and jealous, especially that he targeted her specifically, because she was super careful about never revealing her body lower than the neck/collarbones.

Also, I really don't want to screencap all of it, but more on the Jim drama - shocker of shockers, the chief accuser is a genderspecial non-monogamist """"demisexual"""" (for those not in the know: this means you don't want to fuck someone until you know them well, and it's Totally Kweer) who, from the looks of her Twitter thread, fucked a married man and got her feelings hurt when he broke it off. Jim's a moron for thinking he could get away with banging multple autists and assuming it wouldn't come out someday, but it's much less "he sent me unsolicited pictures of his dick" and more "we were in LOOOOVE and he MANIPULATED ME", which is way more fucking boring. Of course, anyone in the comments addressing what a bunch of he-said-she-said bullshit this sounds like is getting shouted down.

Also, she's an ASMR creator with less than 5k subs. Wonders never cease.

I didn’t know about that but I do know that ER is pretty fucking pretentious in the community. Everyone he’s done a collaboration with promised to never do another video with him (Tirar A Deguello comes to mind), although they never went to detail on specifics.

Ha! No shit? I had never seen that but I'm totally not surprised. I really, really like Phoenician Sailor, and his collabs with ER kind of put me off him for a while, but he hasn't done one for a few years now so hopefully he realized what an asshole ER is.

Was reading the Jim fallout and it does seem like yet more poly drama. Ghosting people and cheating on your wife isn't very nice but all you have to do is identify as aromantic and ethically non-monogamous and it's a-ok. Made it sound like he was a serial rapist, rather than a weirdly charismatic autist with a talent for voice-acting and hordes of young females chucking themselves at him.

Beginning to prefer unintentional ASMR to be honest. Listening to harmless old people doing reiki or explaining gardening delivers the tingles without all the narcissism and heavy-handed sponsorship content.

Ope, Karuna Satori is involved in drama again.

Major players seem to be Karuna (1M+ subs), Rachel/CrinkleLuvin ASMR (147k subs, frequent collaborator with Jim ASMR who was outed last month as a sex pest), Tingle Dove/Little Dove ASMR, and a couple of others that are small-scale. Literally everyone involved in this is trashy as fuck and "problematic", but of course Karuna is at the center again.

It looks like Rachel leaked nudes (genuinely don't understand this because dozens of porn videos starring Karuna, face and all, are available on basically any free porn site) and talked some shit to someone unnamed about how shady a few creators are:

(Whoever she talked to is Italian, which makes me suspect ASMR Glow/Sharon or possibly White Rabbit ASMR/Ella, but neither of them get particularly involved in drama so that's just speculation on my part.)

Sorry it's not really lolcow related, but I wanted to drop some good vibes in this thread and remind everyone that Maria (GentleWhispering) is the queen of ASMR and a literal freakin angel. I had heard whispers of drama around Jim but didn't get the details until now. Shame about that. Also a shame that ER was kind of a douche, he was definitely a pretentious weirdo at times but I liked some of the characters he did, like Corvus.

I know this is a thread more for ragging on asmr than discussing it, but lately I've started to prefer voiceover-only to anything with an actual camera. It lets people get a little more creative with scripts and characters, and it seems to be a slightly less petty circle since it's not about how the creator looks, just how they sound.

Yeah, those are the Instagram stories/videos Karuna posted.

Fun fact: Jim's back and seems to have lost almost no subscribers + his video views are comparable to pre-drama. I think CrinkleLuvin is going to come out way worse than Jim in the long run - Jim was a douchebag but the actual receipts I've seen show nothing but willing participants that, in a lot of cases, initiated flirtatious/sexual contact, so the immediate narrative that he was an abuser or a creep seems pretty suspect, and my own initial post about it here jumped the gun.

Rachel can't deny that she posted somebody else's nudes for the express purpose of making fun of them, though. Not a great look, Ms. "Women Should Uphold Each Other".
