Before we begin, let's have some music to set the mood:
The tiki culture aesthetic is a wonderful thing, a remnant of a bygone era that still holds up well to this day. Everything about it- the restaurant/bars, the art, the music, is a thing of beauty, and I figured we should have a thread to discuss all things tiki, as well as post pics of tiki bars and examples of tiki art.
So Kiwis, whether it be art, music, food/drinks, photos, or anything else, post anything tiki that you enjoy.
Hell yeah, I've always loved this aesthetic ever since I was a kid.
Have you ever been to Trader Sam's Tiki Bar in either Disneyland the Polynesian at Walt Disney World Orlando? I've been to the Orlando one and it's without a doubt one of the coolest places I've ever set foot in.
Sadly, Tiki bars are a rarity here. The ones we have generally are American Chinese joints that double as Tiki bars, including the famous Kowloon in Saugus. There used to be one in Providence before it shut its doors when COVID hit. The other Tiki bar is actually themed after a trailer park.
There's one Tiki bar in Boston that looks promising. Once these bullshit vaccine mandates finally go away, I might visit
Man, I love all things Tiki. Cocktails, figurines, t-shirts, you name it:
LOL interesting to find this thread as a native dude myself. Some people would call cultural appropriation but I don’t give a shit and also Tiki is like an amalgamation of Polynesian, southeast Asian and Caribbean. Work at a tourist place like this and it’s pretty fun.

Without saying too much about myself, I've been to the Big Island at least 30 times in my life. Each and every time is a wonderful experience, although the Kailua-Kona side is kinda dull.
