TikTok

Is this:

THIS is what they said "needed seasoning".

TikTok CEO Shou Chew testified before U.S. Congress today as the government considers measures against the app, including a nationwide ban.

Typical political theater shit for the most part so I didn't feel like it deserved its own thread, but two things I found super interesting:

When asked if TikTok employs keylogging, Chew's exact response was "We do not engage in keystroke logging to monitor what users say. It's to identify bots. It's for security purposes, and this is a standard industry practice."

In other words, yes, TikTok has a keylogger.

Second, when asked if ByteDance (the parent company of TikTok) was spying on Americans with instructions from Beijing/the CCP, he simply said no. When asked more specifically if ByteDance had ever targeted particular American citizens for spying, he instead said, "I don't think spying is the right way to describe it."

Many of his answers and denials also contained unnecessary extras. We haven't been ordered to give any data to the CCP. We don't keep user data for the purposes of spying. We don't sell user data to any data broker (he actually deferred answering if there was anyone else they may have sold it to).

Different articles highlight different details and I haven't combed through the whole 5 hour circus but the read I get is he answered in such a stereotypically Chinese way he couldn't help but make everyone's fears worse.

I actually have mixed feelings about the banning of tiktok from the U.S

On one hand, the world will be a better place without its influence.
On the other hand, i will lose one of the best sources for cringe the world can offer.
They'll just move to YouTube shorts and Instagram, don't worry.

Honestly I wouldn't care less if tiktok gets nuked. Everyone makes a big deal about freedom of speech, I see Chinese opium. Burn it. Don't let the chinks have any more influence. They Honestly have created a weapon more potent than any other platform. The videos are utter nonsense, have no thought, and seek to drain the minds of my generation. It's time to stop, we lived without it only a few years ago, we will again.

Honestly I don't get it, I have a coworker who is obsessed with that shit and always trying to get me to watch that shit. Shit's more annoying than the kids who smoke in the school bathroom trying to get you to take a puff off their Marlboros and shit.

Also, anyone over 30 who has any substantial interest in TikTok is a cringelord of the highest order. Worse than all the other Current Year garbage we're supposed to partake in.

They're calling it a "TikTok ban" to sneak in broader legislation: https://kiwifarms.net/threads/the-r...-privacy-and-free-speech-implications.159264/

Its addictive. I'm not even exaggerating about that. I know I post a lot of that shit here to laugh at, but I use things like TikyToky and the web interface. I don't have an account and I think it's a terrible idea to have one. Their algorithm is so detailed it will track things like like how long you watch a video, even without liking or commenting on it, and they use machine learning to see what things IN those videos are appealing to you (There's even some suspicion out there that it can use eye tracking), then they recommend more content that's similarly engaging. Note too, that this doesn't mean more of the same content, because people would burn out, they make sure to stagger it in semi-randomly so it's like a slot machine where if you keep scrolling you'll eventually get a "great" video they know you'll enjoy, and that hit of dopamine keeps you scrolling for your next one.

I've found TikTok to be a good source for news nobody else seems to be talking about, so I'm often aware of things long before other's first hear about it. From what I've seen a regular poster on TikTok single-handedly raised awareness of details about the East Palestine train crash's toxic spill that otherwise would've been ignored or otherwise not properly dealt with.

It is a pain to go back for receipts when you have to prove something that has happened though. otherwise I don't really think it's much worse then using Facebook, which seems to be moderated and controlled by government agencies.

As much as i hate the chink malware its not like people will stop posting embarassing cringe on any other western social media. The same behaviour is promoted and rewarded on youtube, instagram, twitter, etc. Most of the retarded stuff on here like the kids larping as animals and insane women pretending to have DID was already popular on tumblr before it moved to tik tok.

Does anyone have Alex Bodger tiktok video where he film a man getting stab to death in front of his 3 year old daughter and acting unhinge while narrating like Jake Paul?
Charlie have made a video on it, and I am trying to find a archive video of it.
