Something about the "Loss" serial I never got (aside from why it exists) was this:
The main character guy (his name is Ethan, I believe) gets all pissed of at the robot for saying something to him. Here's the catch: we never see what the fuck the robot said that pissed him off so much. I guess Mother Buckler was doing one of those "ITS UP TO YOUR IMAGINATION OOOOH WHIMSICAL" things, but to me it just seems like lazy storytelling.

But I have seen that comic. That just feels like a cop out in order to avoid writing a more cohesive ending. Like the entire universe imploding on itself despite Ethan's efforts.

I think it was because as the series went on, Buckley wanted to add more emotional moments to the comic so it wouldn't just be all lame jokes all the time. Of course he was infamously bad at handling the whole thing with the girl being pregnant, which is why the loss comic is so awkwardly hilarious. We never actually got to see Ethan or his wife deal with them becoming parents, it was mostly just the same old gags thrown in but with occassional references to a baby. But then at the end of the story arch, right the fuck outta no where, with no build up at all, she has a miscarriage.

I think he suddenly realized he couldn't cope with having a babby in the strip and/or that's always a shark-jump, so he wrote himself out of it in the worst way possible. I suppose he could have had the sprog get born and then immediately dropped on its head by a doctor.

I may be wrong, but the Jackie incident happened when he wooed some underaged girl on his form. She leaked the photo, and he shut down sections of his own forums and went ban happy when anyone brought it up.
