I really need to stop ignoring Tim's videos just because I don't care about the topic. Holy shit. Okay, so according to Tim (6:00), we should "semi-nationalize" Twitter. Twitter can stay in private hands, but we subsidize it. Why? Well, because advertisers don't want to be on a platform that has hate speech. So...Twitter has to exist now? A platform that is used by 25% of the population, with an estimated 80% of their userbase only following other people? Twitter is not a mandatory part of the public square, that's what forums are for. That's what ...ugh...Reddit is for. Twitter is just a giant advertising board for corporations, politicians, and freelance artists. Imagine saying we should increase spending while you complain that inflation is the worst it's ever been and that the Biden administration is to blame for it? "The government is making all these awful decisions, vote them out of office for making our economy so bad! Also, we should increase spending to fund a platform that no one uses because if we actually make it free and open it will lose a shit ton of money."

Fuckity fuck, that's a shit take. If Twitter folds what's to stop society from just going back to normal communication? Or something better finally rising in its place.

I remember in the video he made just after getting over COVID he basically said (in his 30 minute top of the dome rant) that he feels lockdowns and other authoritarian measures may sometimes be needed (because he basically blamed a coworker for him getting it). Basically if you piss him off enough all his freedom talk goes right out the window
So in other words don’t piss off the beanie boy

It's not even real rage, it's all for show. Even with that Ra the muffinman or whatever he calls himself, it was just Tim deflecting because he's been caught out, so much so he found a $5 hooker from downtown DC and said it was his sister.

Also, what's he gonna say when people start asking "Why not part nationalise Timcast"

I'm just baffled that Twitter is at all important to any society, and really it's a bit of a doom pill that people take it so seriously and attribute any real value to it.

That's really the worst part about this whole situation. Watching the libshits face off with the Elon shills, while even my fellow doomers quake in their boots and go "Ohhhh man, if anyone is the Antichrist its probably Elon Musk, maaan! Imagine what he can do with this kind of power!"

Twitter literally produces nothing of value. Its messages were deliberately gimped to a short character limit to PREVENT anything of value being said on its platform. I'm old enough to remember the original pitch, that it was just a place to share your dumb random thoughts. Free speech on Twitter shouldn't even be an issue because its a fucking toy, not a news source, not a public forum, its a WEB TOY. There shouldn't even be millions using it! Yet it seems as if the entire human race is under this malignant spell that forces them to take this objectively worthless website seriously. The entire internet has fundamentally changed the way it presents information specifically to concur with Twitter's design philosophy.

The internet has the frightening potential to digitally enslave the human race in a number of horrifying ways. But this, this is the fucking dumbest. This one makes no sense. If our species can't even avoid being hypnotized by fucking Twitter of all things, are we even capable of that much at all? This is like drowning in a glass of water next to an Olympic swimming pool.

Is it wrong of me to hope that Timmeh has a stroke during one of his sperg-out rages, like the one he had over Twitter's CEO's golden parachute contract clause?

No. No, it's not.

The limit was originally 140 characters cos that's the length of a text message using the GSM 0.38 encoding. It was conceived as a platform that you could text a message to and it would be mass texted to your followers, a feature that was still available until 2019.

For me if Twitter has any utility it's just being a place for announcements, like "No show tonight" or "Next episode coming out on X". Sort of like a news ticker just because it's a centralized place to post things to keep an audience updated. Outside of that it's one of the worst social medial platforms imaginable because of how it's set up, and most social media is shit. It's kind of amazing to see what a forum site can do after not using one in ages and I'll say it's so much better and has so much more utility than popular sites like Reddit, Facebook, etc.

Though what really bothers me about Twitter and the like is that it takes the worst of humanity and assigns a value to it. I've always been a stoic person and sometimes I'd get asked why I'm so calm during a stressful situation, and it's not that I don't feel stressed or worried, it's that I know I need to push that to the side and work out the situation as being agitated will only make things worse than they already are. Twitter is the inverse of that, it takes that meaningless rage, that pointless crying, and all of those other emotions that can be cathartic when experienced outside of any situation where they'd be harmful and makes them appear valuable as all of a sudden other people are responding to your bitching and moaning, often times positively. As such what's normally a massive detriment in almost all cases is now being rewarded in mass, so instead of people having to develop healthy ways of dealing with their outrage or depression they're being trained to exaggerate it for reward.

That's probably why Twitter is so popular despite not actually providing anything of value, it's just a way for people to take these fucked behaviors and justify them with positive reinforcement. So the value of Twitter is essentially that you can be told that it's a good thing you're a shitty and failed person and nothing else, and because that's easier than actually improving yourself society ends up in a downward shit spiral.

I'm just happy I'm too autistic to fall into that trap.

I would say yes. There is a symptom called “impending sense of doom” that occurs during severe medical crisis, notably during a stroke.

Tim is a weirdo and potential to go full lolcow, but I don’t wish him medical harm for it.

You dont have a word for it? Ours is Lederknecht. it translates to Visions of the End.

5:50 - "But come on, let's talk about politics here. There are tons of people out there who like things I think are stupid. I'm not a fan of Yu-Gi-Oh! Tons of people who like playing with Yu-Gi-Oh! cards. I got no beef with Yu-Gi-Oh! players!"

Why the fuck would he even say that..I don't know how that would add to the political discourse
