If Tim was half as smart as he likes to think he is, he'd realize that college and credentialism is a part of the sick/corrupt system; and if he were to be as punk as he likes to claim, he'd foster something outside by capable of operating within said system. Which is something he should've done with his local skaters and other people; instead of going to war with them, learn to coexist and uplift them. Instead, he has to talk down to everyone.

Accreditation does matter even outside of ideological reasons. People don't think of Prager U as a university for that reason. Developing a not-technically college network is insanely difficult because it needs to have courses that can apply to employers and employers, regardless of how realistic their demands are, want quality assurance of new hires.

Sniff test. Would you hire Ian Crossland for any kind of IT position? Not as the office clown, I mean to do actual work.

I'm not trying to say accreditation doesn't matter, just that if you're going to rail against the collegiate system (as it deserves), you should be able to quantify your issue with it. If Tim could use his big boy words to explain his problem with college papers, he wouldn't come off as such a retarded ass.

I have a problem with colleges; while I'm not going to get into the grants and other government money they use to inflate costs and fill seats with people who shouldn't be there, my issue is companies are not willing to train anymore. They want some sort of paper that says you meat a minimum qualification. I'm not saying these are bad, I'd want an accountant, a lawyer, doctor, and other types of professions to be able to show they could pass their governing board (something California is trying to do away with, but that's another story). Where I have an issue with this, is there are many jobs where 6 to 12 months of OJT would teach a hell of a lot more than sitting in a class or doing a self-study certificate or whatever choice of formal learning; and I'm not just talking about the racial grievance studies, but shit like Hotel Management; did you know you can get a fucking Master's Degree in Hotel Management? There's a lot of janky silly shit in the education system that I can point out and quantify the how and why. There's a lot of middle-man shit that college/education fills for positions that shouldn't require them; but they want you to get a piece of paper, from an overpriced institution, sometimes good, sometimes bad, I can't paint every field with the same brush; and personal bias, the colleges, big business, and politicians have made this shit compact that does more damage than good. I hold a Master's and I'll tell you there's plenty of people who don't need to be in college and plenty of "fields of study" that shouldn't exist in college; and making college loans interest bearing and non-discharageable while lowering standards to let everyone in, because everyone needs a stupid piece of paper is an agreement made in Hell.

Papers and pedigree have their places, and Tim isn't entirely wrong about college being bad/corrupt. But as much as he likes to talk or run his mouth, his mind is vacant I doubt he can clarify exactly why he doesn't like college educations. So I will tell you why, he got in at Vice and worked at other big journo institutions; look at who he was surrounded by and his disdain is understandable. The problem is, it's not the degree that made people like that; sure going to college and being surrounded by that shit is part of the issue, but it's not like doing 4+ extra years of schooling suddenly make you an unbearable shitbag. I doubt Tim can understand such a thing; despite being friendly with Jack Posobiec, who being former Naval Intelligence means the dude (fucking glows) has a degree.

Without knowing what he was about, if he could dress nice enough and not be a complete sperg, I might be fooled into letting Ian in. But after 2 "So I was passed out under the stairs" and coming in smelling like weed would get his ass tossed out.

All that is true. Problem with Tim is that he can't tell who is and who isn't competent AND picks high school dropouts on top of it, so now he's getting candidates that have trouble with English Composition and Pre-Algebra. College is overpriced and too time-consuming for what it is, but high school doesn't even do the job of educating people. It's why all his content is dumb and incompetent, coasting entirely on his time when he was at VICE when he didn't talk that much.

Colleges overall are a net positive for anyone if you can afford it. The problem with colleges as of now is mainly cost. I went on a full ride so my experiences are different but for some schools, if you either don't pay it back or have 0 financial aid/scholarships it's really expensive and basically fucked. A lot of jobs won't even look at anything you give them if you don't have a degree in general. That being said I don't hate or demonize colleges but overall they are needed.

The problem I have with Tim Pool's type and generally the conservative right is that they demonized colleges and arguably have done worse in the alternatives they give. I am not knocking on trades but a lot of trades start out as much as someone who just left college ($40-60k), in general trades don't make much unless you're in the NYC plumbers union and make much more off the bat. Trades are also facing issues such as cheap foreign labor taking over and the steady decline of unions, which Tim Pools types hate. There was also a push by conservative types to just go work at fast food and not be spoiled about wanting a better job, college degree or not.

Conservatives like Tim Pool types have also demonized colleges. They said it's bullshit and you shouldn't join and as a result, let Marxist leftist types take over the arts and as a result, lost the culture war in the process. It wasn't until tiktok edits that there was a comeback.

I am not saying alternatives period are bad, if you can get yourself into a good trade or even the military and play your cards right you're set, nor am I saying college is bad either. However, people like Tim Pool and his Yolk have poisoned the well in a lot of the conversations revolving around college

It's good for certain fields, but a number of fields with study areas could be reduced to a certificate program, and a number of those certificate programs would be better served via some sort of doing instead of just theory. One of my main issues is their importance has been drastically inflated as companies don't train anymore and expect you to be proficient out the gate, which doesn't happen; and as I said earlier, the compact between business, banks, and government is an agreement made in Hell. You need college to get job, but you don't have money so take out bullshit loan with some of the worse conditions around, even if you get through college, you may not get a job in said field, or due to immigration, H-1B and other fuckery, you may be stuck with little to nowhere to go. Throw in places like California where they're doing everything they can to remove any sense of standards to let anyone and everyone in, on government grants and loans, you realize the schools don't even have their heart in it and are just doing it for money, that students who fail won't be able to discharge via bankruptcy or ever escape, and everyone is fed that college is how you move up in the world.

Colleges aren't the main crux of the problem, but they are one-third of the problem, working in tandem with big business and the government.

As an aside, the VA Bill paid for everything up to my Bachelors, I financed my own Masters, and did so just because it's resume stuffing. I didn't learn anything new, or get to play with new technology or receive the blessing of intelligence from those who came before me. I wrote papers, showed how I understood shit worked, and did some projects to show I'm apparently fancy enough to be bestowed the rank of "Master." Just to make my resume look better; I get not every field is like this, but I don't consider my head up my ass (that much) and can determine that it's a fucking joke; and if it's like that where I am, I can only look at other, let's call them, less technical fields, and determine that they'd be better served with a less costly and less time intensive road to success.

college is a net good, ironically enough the people that would benefit the most wouldn't be able to get into it and wouldn't enroll even if it was free. The reason plenty of people whine that ivy league education is easy is because most of the people getting there got world class education and what they'd learn in high school is the equivalent to a 400 level class anyways, so outside of the ability to make connections, college itself is useless to them.

and because of the high costs and requirements and having to let every non-white in, college in general not going to be much good to the typical asian or white person that took AP or IB classes in high school and already was doing calculus at 16, outside of the whole "interacting with others your age" part of the equation.
