Titanic tourist submersible goes missing with search under way

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
Imagine being one of the many hundred people who died on the Titanic, and a century later a bunch of rich fucks construct a dollar store death machine that's piloted by a 2000s gaming controller just so they can go, and gawk at your corpse.

Yeah, you wouldn't feel bad if they suddenly died at sea like you did, would you?
Especially since assuming they were crushed by pressure after catastrophic hull failure, their deaths were instantaneous unlike the Titanic victims drowning or dying of hypothermia.

Tbh I think most people are going to be more disappointed if they're somehow recovered alive than if they died.

Tinfoil hat:

They saw something they were not meant to see, something giving credence to the conspiracy theories about the sinking/identification of the Ship. And/or this was a malicious act to prevent people going down the wreck anymore.

After the craft is found, there will be a 'no dive zone' around the site for 'safety' reasons.
Signs point to incompetence and corner cutting. Not that they saw the the biblical leviathan or Cthulhu.

I don't know. I don't fault the people who would want to go down and see the thing. I also think anyone who would sign up for this or any of those space tourism flights would get off on the risk. It's basically sky diving or bungee jumping for the 1%.

If you're going to go through the trouble of renting a sub to investigate a shipwreck, you should at least be doing it for plunder. Fuck the Titanic, take me down somewhere in the gulf where a Spanish treasure galleon sunk in 1610. I want that cursed mexican gold.

It makes a lot of sense. I still won't buy the official explanation because it's the Titanic.

Although, one would think, that for £180,000 a ride, the last thing to happen to this submersible would be incompetence or corner cutting. A £10 donkey ride on Blackpool Please Beach going wrong may cost you a few quid. Literally sinking your £1,00,000~ a go business because you couldn't be arsed checking the systems properly is just insanity.

Oh boy, the part with the interview with OceanGate's founder explains a lot.

Stockton Rush - CEO of OceanGate said:
When I started the business one of the things you'll find there are other sub-operators out there but they they typically have a gentleman who are ex-military submariners and you'll see a whole bunch of 50 year old white guys. I wanted our team to be younger to be inspirational and I'm not going to inspire a 16 year old to go pursue marine technology but a 25 year old you know who's a sub pilot or a platform operator or one of our techs can be inspirational. So we've really tried to to get very intelligent motivated younger individuals involved because we're doing things that are completely new.

Fun facts about the Logitech F710 controller:

-It was originally released in 2010, and Logitech has been manufacturing it without any changes ever since then. And throughout those 13 years much better alternatives came up on the market, such as the Xbox One controller that doesn't have the same flaw as the F710 where if it falls on the floor your triggers are instantly broken

-It is a PC controller from the Xbox 360 era, which you can tell by the fact it still has a switch between DInput and XInput. In short, DInput is the controller API Microsoft used since the 90's and XInput is their "new" API from 2005. XInput allows for less supported buttons and axis' (limited to what the X360 controller had) compared to DInput where all buttons were marked as 1. 2, 3 and you had to manually map them, but it allows for easier implementation by game devs to make sure that your controller will be properly mapped from the start. Ever since then XInput is the de facto standard and Windows automatically converts XInput to DInput in older games, so you don't even really need a physical API switch to use a modern controller in older games.

-It's only means of connectivity is a shitty little proprietary 2.4GHz USB dongle, no possibility for an USB connection, kinda like the old Xbox 360 wireless controller that could only connect to a Windows PC with a dedicated adapter. If you buy a 1st party Xbox controller today, it is capable of connecting via USB, Bluetooth, or it's dedicated 2.4GHz dongle, so you have options between a working but less than ideal Bluetooth connection, a solid lagless wired connection, or best of both worlds with Microsoft's 2.4GHz dongle.

These motherfuckers cheaped out so fucking hard on this grift they've bought one of the worst game controllers available on the market today, and that's from a PC gamer's standpoint, and they've used that shit to steer a fucking submarine. If they were inspired by drone operators that use Xbox controllers to steer the drones, they've forgot that drones are unmanned, if it crashes you only lose some cash but not a single human life.

I swear, if this debacle will lead to Logitech finally dumping this 13 year old dinosaur from the market I will lose my shit. :story:

From what I've seen they lost contact and telemetry when it would have been just a little past halfway down. So there's a chance they might have been brought up with the emergency lift bags and are tumbling losy in the north atlantic being tumbled and pounded until their oxygen runs out. while they can see daylight through the portal. Plus the bitch is carbon fibre. Which makes it harder for surface search radar to spot.

So many horrible ways to die.
Then there's drowning, probably one of the most horrible ways to die (unlike stomach cancer).

Bro, this is going to be like the Heaven's Gate Nike shoes. You gotta start stocking up on them before they come out of circulation
And there it is. Any sympathy or benefit of the doubt for this guy is gone.

Oh, I see you guys aren't fluent in the ways of the useless faggot billionaire language. Let me translate this for you:

"You see, I thought about hiring the 50 year olds with decades of marine and seafaring experience, but they were too expensive. I'm going to talk about some nonsense on diversity in order to hide the fact that I paid some people right out of college with the absolute bottom dollar who had absolutely no experience and were desperate for a job. This will shield me from lawsuits and I can just yell at people and call them racist. No one will notice how clearly negligent I was."

That's what he was actually saying, I know its rather confusing. These people are mentally retarded, so I know they don't always get their point across.

SPONGEBOY ME BOB!

I AM TRAPPED IN ME HOMEMADE SUBMARINE BECAUSE I SAVED MONEY ON THE PROPULSION AND STEERING!

Who dies in submersibles under the sea?
Billionaire cheapskates
Squashed flat like a cowpat by pressure is he!
Billionaire cheapskates
Who buys their controller from the dollar tree?
Billionaire cheapskates
And only hires niggers for diversity?
Billionaire cheapskates, billionaire cheapskates, billionaire cheapskates, billionaire cheapskates!
