According to some of the last contacts it was descending too fast and they were trying to drop ballast to slow down.
If they hit the ocean floor too hard, the sudden impact, combined with the weakened carbon fiber that was only designed for one trip according to the manufacturer and had been subjected to multiple compression cycles, it likely ruptured the hull on impact.
Thats if thats what happened of course.
