Titpee / This is Thin Privilege - Morbidly Obese HAES Tumblrinas

Maybe people feel like vomiting if their only exercise is eating a giant jar of vanilla almond butter and then sticking their finger down their throat.

I think they just want a strawman. They act like the only way to lose weight is to work out three to five hours a day, with no breaks, after buying the most expensive gym membership or home exercise equipment they can afford, when in reality it can be as simple as riding your bike to the store more often.

I think the many obesity-related diseases would say otherwise.

Or just putting down the fork. I lost a couple of pounds this month just from eating smaller portions.

I think my favorite kind of rage they do is the one where they bitch about not answering a question that they've answered a bunch of times before...and still answer it anyway. It's like once a day.

I got a few things to say about TITP and HAES and the fat acceptance movement. I wasn't sure if I wanted to post this here or in the FA thread but given that this is mostly about TITP I decided to post it here.

From the very cursory research I did about HAES in the past year or so it does make sense. From what I know of it, it is a lifestyle centered on good eating habits, exercising in a way that is enjoyable and being mindful of your body's cues. HAES also promotes getting away from the "dieting" or yo-yo dieting mindset and if followed properly, can actually help you to lose weight. There was a FAer that followed HAES for about a year and has lost weight. I think the movement is towards getting away from harmful dieting practices and embracing yourself and taking care of yourself basically. Unfortunately, however there are many FAers that don't really understand what HAES is really about and use it as an excuse for not doing what they can do to be healthier.

As for TITP, they bring up some good points and often some good studies, however a lot of the studies that they bring up either are new and undergoing peer review or have been debunked in some manner. I agree with some of the things that they say but I don't like the tone that they take with some people and troll or not, there are people who come across that site for the very first time; probably wanting to understand the movement and get shoved aside or yelled at rudely because they didn't "read the FAQs" or some other thing. These genuine askers are then put off by this tone and will then become even more prejudiced against fat people, something that goes against social justice advocacy in general. You want to make the people who you come across, that are curious, to see your view and to educate them why this treatment of fat people is an injustice; not alienate them and be hostile towards them.

Also, another thing about TITP is that they are very one dimensional in their topics. One of the common themes is clothing, the other being medical stuff or treatment by doctors. I agree with the latter and I think those in the medical field should treat fat people as human beings and treat them with dignity and respect. I don't mind talking to my own doctor about my weight and what I can do to be healthier but there are others who want an answer or diagnosis without the whole "lose weight" lecture. TITP only seems to focus on these two things when there are probably other things that they could discuss and the whole overtone of the site seems to be about bitching in general. It's not a very positive place; especially for first timers, those that are genuinely curious and interested, and for those that actually want a discussion, all sizes included.

Yet one more thing about TITP is they proscribe to the whole "don't speak on behalf of those that are oppressed" mentality that Tumblr SJWs in general have. You know, like how they say that white people shouldn't speak on behalf of minorities but rather shut up and listen to them. This isn't activism, this is shutting down one side of the conversation. For example; thin people should be able to discuss experiences of their fat friends or family members provided that said fat friends or family members aren't there at the moment to tell their stories, thin people should be able to talk about their experiences with body image (I am not going to go into the whole thing why thin shaming is different than fat shaming, etc. since this isn't a place to have that discussion, there are differences, yes but thin shaming can be harmful to one's self esteem as well.) and share in the discussion about body positivity. Thin people should be able to educate others on the things that fat people experience and should be able to ask questions. TITP doesn't allow any rational and reasonable discourse between their thin readers and fat readers but rather they shout down anyone who would or could shatter their narrative, thus they shut those discussions down rather than engage in it.

I still read TITP but I no longer fully subscribe to the whole thing as I feel that it has become even more hostile and full of negativity. I like the main mission statement of fat acceptance but even that has gotten warped and hijacked by the more radical, SJW types and there for there is no forward activism of the movement and that is unfortunate because I think that the FA and body positivity movement has potential.

tl;dr: HAES actually is about having a healthier lifestyle, no matter the size, by being more active and eating better food as well as doing exercise that you enjoy. Actually following HAES can make you lose weight but HAES is designed to get away from "dieting" mentality. TITP is hostile to people who want to learn more about FA and their goals but instead manages to turn people against them, other FAers and fat people in general as well as making the narrative one sided. There are good FA and HAES sites out there, but TITP isn't one of them.

Amazing. Someone who says they get dizzy from exercise and happens to be fat is recommended to do some other, gentler exercises first to acclimate?
It's almost as if the doctor is doing their job, suggesting the first most obvious case to hopefully save them and their patient some time. discriminating against this fat person as well as all fat people anywhere ever, how healthist and fat shaming of them!

. You're fat because you eat too much and move too little. Either accept this and the repercussions that come with this (not everyone will be attracted to you, health issues, clothing issues) or lose the weight. The ones that irritate me the most are the ones that say that men aren't attracted to "real women" and they all want stick women. I don't think I need to point out why that's BS. I think they irritate me so much because they assume that since I'm still fat, that I agree with them.
Losing weight isn't difficult to understand, and knowing is half the battle. I'll explain:

They eat too much sugar because sugar is very nearly in every cheap processed food. It works like this: high blood sugar + insulin = instant fat storage. So basically not eating well is the same as eating too much or too little of the things your body needs. We feel hungry when our body needs macronutrients (proteins, carbs, fat) and micronutrients (vitamins, iron, zinc). If the body doesn't get the nutrients it is craving, then it will feel hungry forever. And when we feel hungry, our body thinks it needs to conserve energy, so it makes the person lethargic. So starts the vicious cycle.

Another fun fact about sugar: Cocaine and Heroin both less addictive than sugar. And the fact that the food industry is so rich they have had nutrition labs synthesize them chemicals that make food even more addictive and seem better than it really is. MSG is a classic example of this. The trufax are that sugar is a dose-dependent heptotoxin that slowly eats away at your liver's ability to function over years of having high blood sugar, eventually developing into diabetes II. Not only that, but sugar molecules have sharp edges, and excess sugar in the bloodstream creates millions of tiny lacerations, which if not allowed to heal can destroy the vein and decrease the circulation to that part of the body. This is actually the mechanism that prevents diabetics from healing like the rest of us, and eventually leads to things like your fingers and toes falling off from a minor cut because they failed to take care of themselves.

They are addicted to food as much as a smoker is addicted to tobacco, the main difference being we actually need to eat to stay alive. The dumb irony is that eating right and not exercising is more effective than eating poorly and exercising for losing weight. They keep their old shitty eating habits and then face frustration when it inevitably fails them. Ever wonder what they put in to keep the flavor in "fat-free" labeled products? There are several dozen sugars, your body treats them all the same way.

Nice roundup, otherwise, two main points, the "sugar is addictive" thing is sort of a misnomer, we do have a chemical dependancy on sugar for the whole being alive thing humans have going, IIRC the dopamine release is because most sweet stuff in nature is high-calorie and not poisonus, so the body gives us a rush of dopamine as a reward for finding something like that and eating more (since mostly, fat storage has become an archaic mechanism for modern societies, but the body doesn't care)

otherwise, MSG wasn't some crazy conspiracy "made in a lab" thing, it's actually found in japanese kombu kelp, one of the base ingredients in a lot of Japanese cooking. isolated MSG kinda is, but it's quite easily found in nature. it's actually pretty nice for dieting, boiling a rasher of kombu kelp makes whatever you're cooking taste meaty

otherwise, I must point out and question something. how the fuck do you not drop a single pound from FEP training? even if it is a thryroid problem, isn't there shit to counteract that and regulate the lacking horomones? after several months on FEP, wouldn't they send a recruit to an endocrinologist because clearly something isn't fucking right?

usually, yes.
not losing weight even while exercising can be the result of a thyroid disease (rare) or eating like a fuckin pig and still expecting to lose the pounds. thyroid diseases are not super common and not all doctors/healthcare professionals are versed in them because they probably won't deal with a patient unless they're an endo. it's easier to assume the patient is lying about their eating habits, which is true in about 99% of fatties who don't lose weight
