They're out there. I know a guy who's in his 70s now who regularly posts Hatsune Miku vids and even has several figurines. He was raving just the other day about how awesome Overlord II is. Guy was a councillor of some note in his locality for years and got into it because of his grandkids, then legit got into it himself.

He's even been to a couple of Hatsune Miku concerts and seems to enjoy his new hobby.

Also, isn't Hikko watsit supposed to refer to female hermits? I seem to remember reading that once.

For a pedo anime sperg you'd think he'd know that Japan has different consent laws through out the country. Like Tokyo makes it so that it's illegal for you have have sex with anyone under 18. You can find pretty much anything. The only regulations the FCC has on HAM content are it can't be incident(obscene?) and you can't use it for business purposes except in specific circumstances. So you can't go on screaming KILL ALL FUCKING NIGGERS without someone reporting you, but you can wax poetic all day about how black people are subhuman pavement apes and should should be rounded up and killed. Don't cuss or use slurs and you can say whatever you want. There is a lot of FEMA camps style conspiracy stuff out there. If you search for arrests related to FCC complaints you'll find guys who've been assholes over the waves for decades. They get in feuds with the FCC or individuals that extend through all the forums and the people get well known. It's a lot like the earliest days of the internet.

One unique thing about the community is that you are required to say your handle and it's tied to your personal information in a public FCC database. It's a relatively small community HAMs can get real cliquish and elitist. They'll act like getting licensed is hard. All the test questions are dawn from known pools and there are test prep resources that make it easy. A reasonably intelligent person with a baseline knowledge of electrical theory and common sense has a decent shot at passing the lowest level without even studying. You don't need a license to listen, just to transmit. TLDR is that they are an untapped resource.

Anyone that age and a fan of anime probably went through being a fan back when you had to trade copies of a copy-of-a-copy-of-a-copy-of-a-copy digisub VHS tapes through the mail. It was a lot of work being a weeaboo nerd in the dark ages. Anyone can get or make fansubs now, but you needed studio equipment back then. Imagine the effort, postage, and blank tapes required to get through a show with 50 or 100 episodes.

As for Todd, it really says something about his character that troll posts in his name get him locked away. They need to think the threat is credible to keep you in storage.

Hikikomori is a term that’s rarely used in a Western context because it describes a Japanese phenomenon (although hikikomori as we know them also exist in other counties). NEETs exist in almost every society for various reasons, but hikikomori is a pretty specific phenomenon. So basically, the term “hikikomori” is used to describe someone who completely withdraws from society because of the intense pressure to succeed and conform. They feel like they can’t live up to society’s expectations and so choose to isolate themselves.
