It's the only reason people are saying Disco was overhated, because it can't be that disco was actually shit, no. Gen X kids who hated that shit had to be racist and homophobic, that's the only reason to hate it. Because the only type of disco the SJW kids ever heard was the stuff that stood the test of time, not the actual shit that was being played repetitively everywhere.
Disco was just another over exposed genre that got ruined by being a huge bandwagon. It's lasting legacy is being central to modern dance music, more than anything else. So it's going to be looked back on with rose tinted goggles, not including the social justice aspects.

Disco was just another over exposed genre that got ruined by being a huge bandwagon.
thats another part of it. think about how much todd's friends on channel awesome shit over then modern films with the orange and blue palette or the "real is brown" era of video games. i'm sure every retarded illegal immigrant loves those films and games, yet they'd obviously be very hesitant to say every youtuber who hated the Bayformers were actually Trump level bigots.

everyone from the brady bunch to osmonds to carpenders to ringo to greg altman to even the muppets and ducks had some disco release. it was the "cinematic universe" but for music or the "autotune" of its era. obviously the gen Beta kids will look back on both "autotune" and "cinematic universes" and only remember the good ones, but most of them were fucking shit and medicare age Todd will be recording videos talking about being tricked into hating both by nazis too.

He's justified his choices in the past as 'worst' not meaning the most bad, but about it being the 'lack of good' which is why some dumb, mediocre shit that's pretty inoffensive has gotten on there. I think he had Katy Perry's Roar as his worst song for one year even though there was worse stuff on the list by everyone else's standards.
That…really comes across as Todd trying to come across as smarter than he really is. Like he’s really struggling to justify why he made that pick for something others would call “mid”. I have to believe that this doesn’t apply to his yearly best songs list, since all he has to do is talk about why he likes the songs he put on the list.

Honestly, I think 2024 (and maybe 2023 as well) will go down as the years I really stopped valuing Todd’s opinions when it comes to music. I think I may be the only person who has actually had that thought.

I stopped valuing his opinion before Chez Apocalypse was a thing, and then as he went on, I felt more justified. But I did find some things I still listen to through him (Uptown Funk, Take Me to Church) and I do like some of the One Hit Wonderland and Trackwreckords videos he's done since he's a lot better as a music historian than he is as a reviewer. A shame he can't stick to history, since the current songs are what gets him his views.

Are they? I did some data analysis and it's a mixed bag. Started by compiling a table of relevant stats of everything he's posted to YouTube since about his 10 year anniversary in 2019 until now:

After some data manipulation, here are a few interesting results:
  • OHW=One Hit Wonderland; PSR=Pop Song Review; TR=Trainwreckords; TT=Top Ten
  • The video with the most views is the Somerton video at 2418507 views, but it is age-restricted and not sponsored. Was made in the name of ethics in gay video essayists, not for filthy lucre. The next most viewed video is the 2020 Top Ten Worst list at 2352791, which was also sponsored by Skillshare.
  • His most popular videos are definitely the Top Ten Worst videos (not counting the Somerton one), with average views of 1505664 vs 888101 for the Best lists, or 1.7x more views on the Worst lists
  • The number of videos released measured as main channel videos (OHW, PSR, TR only, not including Top Tens, Song vs Song, random supercuts or fact checks, Cinemadonna) have halved from a high of 18 in 2020 to only 9 in 2024. While the highest proportion of videos 2020-2023 were OHW (at 8 in 2020), in 2024 the distribution of videos was equal at 3 each for OHW, PSR and TR.
  • After the Top Tens with average views of 1196883 (averaged from averages, not including 2024), the next most popular show is Trainwreckords with 826365 average views. These numbers have been decreasing year over year after a high in 2022.
  • The average views for OHW late 2019-2024 are 471222, while the average views for PSR over the same period are 422347. In addition, the relative standard deviation (RSD) of views for OHW is only 10.9%, indicating excellent viewer consistency, compared to a still respectable 17.9% for PSR. Notable is that in 2024, average views of PSR overtook OHW on the strength of Kendrick vs Drake beef PSRs. See the graph below for a year over year comparison of average views by show type (and remember that 2019 is incomplete).
1736122642743.png

  • Overall, the average views by show type go as follows, for highest to lowest as TT>TR>OHW>PSR. Behold, a pie chart:
1736122860215.png

  • The Song vs Song podcast videos are by far the lowest viewed on the channel, with an average viewcount of 87181. He does the podcast for fun and because Dany needs the money (it has its own Patreon and brings in about $2k/mo). Breaking the numbers down further, Todd's audience does not give a single shit about Eurovision, as the two he posted from 2021 and 2022 had average views of 59186 and the Eurovision 2021 video is the lowest viewed on the entire channel at 51659. VMAs average at 87564, Grammys 89727 and actual Song vs Songs 107851. This is consistent, regardless of year.
  • In sponsor stats, his first sponsored video was the TR Two the Hard Way on 30 June 2020 by ExpressVPN lol. He's only had 6 sponsors since then: ExpressVPN (2), Brilliant (1), Audible (6), Skillshare (5), Curiosity Stream (13) and Nebula (18 spots). The most charitable interpretation is that Nebula (who manage Todd and of which he is a stakeholder) found the most valuable use of that ad read is to promote itself, while the least is that they can't get sponsors or Todd doesn't get a lot of viewer to sponsor conversion. Since 20 Jul 2022, every ad read has been for Curiosity Stream or Nebula with the sole exception of a Skillshare spot on the 14 Oct 2023 Tubular Bells OHW.
  • Simp stats: Todd promoted Lindsay in 4 of 13 Curiosity Stream ads between 17 Sep 2021-22 Dec 2021 (4 of 7 before 22 Dec, or 57.1%), when she flounced off the internet. The promotion continued on 13 of 18 Nebula ads (72.2%) from 19 Feb 2023 to current, with the 19 Feb video shilling for her ET exclusive on Nebula. He promoted her ET (1), Guy Fieri (4), Yoko (6) and X-Men (2) videos, including links in the video descriptions. The numbers don't lie, ya boy is a simp.
All that to say, it's actually about even as to whether the current pop songs or the historical videos actually bring in the views and more importantly, the money.

I stopped valuing his opinion before Chez Apocalypse was a thing, and then as he went on, I felt more justified. He has lost any ability to talk about history without bringing hos current-year soyboy bullshit into it, so he isn't even good for that anymore.

Finished the video, quite boring one and I literally never heard any of these songs and most of these artists are unknown to me.
I thought it was just me. I don't work anywhere that plays Top 40 radio and I wear my own headphones when I'm out and about, so I thought I was just super disconnected from pop music.

This list is his weakest and worst. I don't like country music so I don't even really give a shit about him hating it, but I usually watch his Worst videos at least three times and I haven't watched this one more than once.

He's barely touched on Brat since it released despite it being one of the biggest events in pop music this year
Todd's failure to do a video on Brat (and his weaksauce, wishy-washy nonsense video about Not Like Us) just goes to prove how fucking lazy he is now. He once did a video on "Dear Future Husband" by Meghan Trainor, for god's sake, but can't cover one of the hottest memes?

I'm still annoyed that he didn't do a video on Chappell Roan.

I'm glad that Todd has his own thread. I used to listen to Song vs. Song regularly. I decided to give it another chance because they did Expresso vs. HOT TO GO. It's disappointing how much worse it's gotten.

We get Danny, you had a boob job.

Judging from the podcast, he doesn't have very much to say besides bland, positive praise. It's really too bad. Just a couple of years ago, both he and Danny were able to give interesting commentary on stars like Billie Eilish while still towing the progressive party line.

Embarrassing.

Well that's a bummer. I think he'd do a pretty good job writing about her lore while making it interesting and funny.
I miss the old Todd, and I desperately miss when Dany was Dany and just talked about being bisexual all the time.
"The most 2024 songs of all time."
ERMMMM AKSHUALLY TODD, "HOT TO GO!" came out in 2023, so ERRRRRM you're wrong!
Also, you can just hear how uncomfortable Todd is after Dany says "I've got my titties out". I feel the same way, Todd.

It's not just you, it's everyone. Todd might be one of the only people who still actively cares about chart pop. Reading through the comments on the Worst list, the standard response to most of his placements is "what by who?"

The concept of a "Worst Hit Songs" list was relevant in 2009, when people were actually having bad music forced upon them by chart radio, but it doesn't work in our current music landscape. Radio isn't really a factor in how the majority of people consume music anymore -- Todd definitely knows this, too. If he wants to get with the times, he should drop the "hit" requirement entirely and just put out a year-end summary of whatever new music he hated the most (or, alternatively, a Top 5 Best/Worst/Blandest list, Zero Punctuation style). These videos are just vehicles for funny quips and politisperging anyway. Nobody really cares what the actual songs are.

Still hanging out for the Best list, though. It'll probably be a lot more interesting. Minus the mandatory Kendrick worship segment.

What's funny about this is that Gavin Newsom himself says there is a problem with the water supply and he's launched a public inquiry to get to the bottom of it (i.e. find a convenient scapegoat). I guess Todd has been spreading misinformation without properly verifying his sources!

Not sure what Kanye did to get to #1 besides make trash,
He's hated Kanye for a few years now, but it's clearly the fact that he got Italian skinhead football hooligans (how problematic!) involved in making that track that earned him the number one spot. Otherwise Shapiro would have got it for sure.

Also, considering Dylan Mulvaney’s “Days of Girlhood” didn’t see the worst list,
Was that actually a hit though? It went slightly viral online because people were laughing about it but as far as I know it didn't chart and he's pretty strict about that. Even though he's a proud trans ally I don't think he'd go so far as to pretend that it actually deserves a place in the top ten of the year.

Maybe it’s being saved for the best songs list.

Honestly, I think it would be more in a “own the right” way since Ben Shapiro got pretty high on the worst list. And then it’d be honorable mentions at most probably.

Here's one moment from Todd that I do not understand. In his OHW review for "Butterfly" from Crazy Town, he takes issue with Mazur (or Shifty) saying the common British slang "tickles your fancy" despite them being American. So? You have an issue with Americans using foreign sayings? This sounds reverse-xenophobic, also serving as an excuse to do his horrid British accent again because he's an admitted xenophobe with no respect towards the Brits.
