I have the opposite attitude. With the industry totally atomized, sure all the pap and dreck put forward by major studios to hit the hot 100 has been the same garbage, but spend twenty minutes on Bandcamp and you can find all kinds of shit. It's maybe a little harder to find the gems but we have never lived in an era where true musical creativity is more accessible.
I'm specifically talking about mainstream music. I'm sure there's a lot of great new indie music coming out, but I don't have the time or energy to seek it out.
But that's the thing, it's no longer "indie". there is no mainstream anymore. Hot 100 artists make up a minority of total sales now. Everyone just has to put a little more work into discovering new music.
