The joke about being a pretty face at 23:09 did not land AT ALL and he knew it. Not even ironically.

Not only have I not heard ANY of those songs, I don't even recognize all but like 3 of those 'artists'.
I just looked up his number 1. No surprise, it's garbage.

Wow. Todd has truly entered his mid life crisis arc.

The Nonsense by Sabrina Carpenter section specifically. He compares her to the great poets of Persia and ancient Greece. He has become that guy.

Specifically, "That Guy" by MJ Hibbett and The Validators. For those unfamiliar, this song is sung by a man in his forties who - realising he's in danger of becoming out of touch - pushes way too hard in the other direction and goes out of his way to heap praise on everything the younger generation seems to enjoy. He ends up "on BBC Four, comparing One Direction to Chaucer".

Honestly now with music streaming and the internet making it easier for us to listen to nothing but the music that caters our tastes, the decline of radio i'm starting to wonder how not knowing the existance of a song/musician is a legitimate criticism for how bad a song is, especially in the setting of one dude's personal top 10.

He's joking, thats a pretty common joke tol.

I liked these songs, seeing Usher again is cool while also making me feel old even though im only 23. I have a soft spot for the Drake and Playboi Carti A.I cover of Fifty Fifty.

Todd barely has opinions about music anymore. Song that reinforces his worldview = good song and any song made by a bad person has to be a bad song that's just how it works.
And how could it be different?

We are not in the 80s anymore, pop is always the exact same shit, same percussion, same synths, same mixing, same chords, and same structure.

That's why I never watch his videos about modern shit, because these songs are indistinguishable. And I'm not murican as well and I'll tell you this shit, America is not exporting music anymore, I have never heard of 80% of the artists in his list, let alone the songs.

He's always had terrible taste, and he's always been really bad at predicting what will succeed and what will fail. He's made jokes about it, but refuses to alter his approach or consider he could be wrong. He still makes the same mistakes and backs the wrong horses. Dumb fuck though Iggy Azalea was going to be this big hot thing, a new trend setter, and she was gone quick. He also believed Adele would be gone after her first album and look how she turned out.

This is why his One Hit Wonderlands and Train Wreckords work better, because he doesn't have to guess at a trend, he already knows what happened and doesn't have to try and pretend he knows how to predict the industry.

I watched the video and he admits himself that was a bad year for music.
I thought his selection was really monotone. Everything sounds the same, there was roughly two categories of song: boring country and boring light pop.

As with many "critics," they do less of forming opinions and more of trying to be "deep" and/or "philosophical" of whatever they're talking about

I think it was something I read on RSP about how Todd is a complete contrarian not just in his enjoyment of pop but in his enjoyment of the specifics of Pop. Pop heads will pick the most acclaimed songs of the year and then Todd will go "well actually I like this total dogshit. That's the real new stuff!"
